Skysafari 5 Plus, SkyBT adapter, Mac OS X on MacBook

Hi Has anyone successfully managed to connect SkySafari to their Celestron scope from their MacBook using the SkyBT adapter?

I've carefully followed all instructions, aligned the 'scope, the device remains paired, but I always get the response, Connection Failure, when trying to connect. My scope is a Celestron 6" SE, and the mount is the Alt-Az single arm goto.

Is there anyway to debug this?

    James,

I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon and this morning looking at this.  As best I can tell, Apple has changed something in recent version of Mac OS X that make Bluetooth serial communication problematic.  I have seen all sorts of flakiness that wasn't there several years ago.  It may have to do with the specific Mac hardware or it could be the version of macOS.

I am able to get this to work periodically but not consistently enough that I'd recommend it.  I think we will need to remove our statement that SkyBT is compatible with Macs for scope control.  We really designed this with Android in mind and there it continues to work just fine.

I'm not convinced that this is a problem we can solve.  If you bought the SkyBT for use with the Mac then all we can right now is offer a full refund and our apologies.

    James,

The Mac has always been a bit fiddly connecting to serial bluetooth devices.  However, I was just trying it again myself and although I'm able to connect after a few tries, it shouldn't be this flaky.

Give us a day or so to look at this.

Hi Bill - A massive thank you for looking into this so promptly. That's really appreciated. A shame you couldn't get it to work! I will mail it back. Do you know if the wifi link works any better with a Mac?

    Wi-Fi works perfectly.

You probably need a RMA number for the return.  Keiron would normally handle this but he is out for the rest of the week.  I'll send him a email about it.

OK thanks. I'm away too for a week, so most likely I'll follow up on 14th Aug. I'll look into the wifi adapter. Cheers.

I am also having the same connection issue on my Mac.  I put in a ticket to support already requesting an RMA.  I wished it worked on both OS X and iOS. It seems like a very cost effective solution.
