Upgraded to IOS 11.0.2 and SkySafari 5 Pro is crashing on start

Hi

I upgraded to IOS 11.0.2 last week.  I used SkySafari a couple of times and it seemed ok.  Last night the star map display started to rotate very fast and continuously ( I suspect I pressed one of the menu button down the bottom by mistake - not sure which one )  I pressed a number of buttons down the bottom to try to stop it.  Almost immediately, a message flashed up ( something about some feature or other not being available or turned off - not sure if this is related ) and SkySafari crashed.  Now, as soon as I start SkySafari, it loads, I get a flash of the SkySafari screen and then it crashes.

Is this a known problem?

I tried re-installing but it did not fix the problem ( I assume that the configuration file was retained in iCloud and reused when SkySafari was re-installed - so maybe that is why it continues to crash immediately ).

Given that the screen was rotating - could it be a problem related to the compass?

If I can figure out a way to stop iCloud doing anything ( I never asked it to ! ) I will try again to re-install and see if it fixes the problem.

Cheers

Mike

For what it is worth, I managed ( after many attempts ) to capture the screen that flashes up for less than a second before it crashes ...

It is not my normal screen ( no doubt the result of my errant button presses ) - in particular, I normally just see the star map, no horizon and no symbol of a globe above the time box.

    Ok, some more information...

It does not immediately crash.  The product flash screen is displayed for a fraction of a second and then SkySafari crashes as it loads / transitions to the main screen.  You can see this in the image above where the two screens are superimposed on one another.

    Mike,

I don't believe this is a problem with the iOS 11 update.  We haven't had anyone else report a problem.  It sounds like you somehow got SkySafari into a strange state and that state is saved in the [CurrentSettings].skyset file.  This file gets loaded when SkySafari starts and is what restores the screen to what it looked like when you last used the app.

Please try using "iTunes File Sharing" (google it if you are not familiar with it) to find the [CurrentSettings].skyset file in SkySafari's documents directory.  Rename it to [CurrentSettingsBad].skyset.  Then try restarting the app and you will have the default settings again.  If that works, please email the bad file to me and I will look at it.  Email it to "bill at simcur dot com"

I just did a quick check with iOS 11.0.2 on 10.5 iPad Pro. I see no problems. Probably is a corrupted settings file.

    Thanks guys.

Bill, I did as you suggested and it now seems to be working ok.  I have emailed you the ‘bad’ file.  Thanks for your help.

    Cheers
