SkySafari 5 Pro | JMI Ngc Max Scope Type Setting

Using JMI ngc max .. Went thru all scope types ,was able to connect using starmaster sky tracker and alt az goto. No others seem to work. When moving encoders readouts to not change on ipad. Bullseye moves with background sky . All push buttons take  up to 5 seconds to respond.. Have read out set at 5. After messing around with this most of the day, at least I am connected. now on to different issues.I think although connected, starmaster sky tracker is not what I should be using to connect HELP

You should really be using the NGC Max option for the scope type.  We need to figure out why that is not working for you.  The Sky Tracker has a different command set.

    1. What release of SkySafari are you using (SS4?, SS5?)

    2. What OS is SkySafari running on?

    3. How are you connecting?  SkyFi, SkyBT, ???

    Sky Safari 5 Pro

IPad version 10.3.3  , IPad Pro version 10.3.2

    Orion Star Seek

    JMI NGC MAX Version 3.52

Using 6 pin connector between Star Seek and JMI NGC..........used two different cables

Ipad Pro settings , scope type JMI NGC MAX, mount type alt-az. push to

RESULT: CONNECTION FAILURE, sky safari 5 pro can make a wireless network connection to the scope, but the scope is not responding. Make sure it is connected and powered on. Also check that your scope type is correct.

    NGC MAX IS ON

Just to be clear, the "Orion Star Seek" is the Orion branded SkyFi 2, right?  This is the wireless box to talk from SkySafari.

Is the serial cable you are using known to be the correct type for the NGC Max?  A random serial cable will not work.  If you can make a connection with the Sky Tracker setting then the cable is probably not the problem.  I think this also implies that the StarSeek unit is functioning.

I don't have an NGC Max to test this with right now, however we haven't had any reports that this does not work.

Probably the next step is to capture a scope communication log file.  Enable this option in the Scope Setup settings.  The Help associated with this panel will explain how to retrieve the log fie using iTunes File Sharing.  Please email the log file to "bill at simcur dot com" and maybe past in the discussion so far so I will know what this is about.

    Kemosabe,

I got your log files.  I'm just going to take this to private email to respond since I don't think this will be of general interest at this stage.
