Rick Rhoton Is this saying you need a premium subscription to locate c/2022 E3 in SkySafari Pro?
-
Matt Hjelle Hi Rick,
No. The premium subscription has ongoing content from astronomy experts added frequently. It takes you through the best observing events with detailed guides, incredible photos and prepared simulations to help ensure success viewing various astro events. There was a comet guide recently added, but it is definitely optional as you can simply search the comet or select it from the Tonight panel after scrolling down and all the app functionality is available to you. There is also a one week free trial for premium so you can get a feel for the content and features. Make sure you hit "View All" within the Tonight panel to see all the past articles and guides. Thanks!

Rick Rhoton Thank you, Matthew. I can see the comet guide in SkySafari, but as you indicate this needs a subscription. If I search for C/2022 E3, my app says it is not found. Is there something I need to do to update the data? Apologies if this isn't the proper forum to ask this. Please feel free to redirect me if there's a better place to ask...

Matt Hjelle Rick,
Try searching just ZTF and selecting from the list or scroll down on the Tonight tab beneath the Featured Story.

Rick Rhoton A search for ZTF finds C/2021 D2 (ZTF) and C/2020 V2 (ZTF). It only shows 263P/Gibbs in the solar system section of the Tonight tab. If I select View All in that same section, there are no comets shown.

Matt Hjelle Rick,
This is in V7 Pro, or which app do you have? Please try visiting Settings>Solar System, and hit Update Minor Body Orbit Data.
Thanks!

Matt Hjelle For any comet to show up without searching for it, under Settings>Solar System, as shown below, turn on Show Comets, plus … With Names.
If you also turn on Selected Object Path (an option with SkySafari Plus and Pro), when you tap or click on the comet to select it, SkySafari will draw its path across the sky automatically, with dates on it. You can now see how it will move over the next few nights. Step ahead in time by the hour or day to see when the comet will be at its best, with it highest but the Moon low or absent.

Howard Gao I couldn’t find any new comet discovered after 2021. I’m using 7 pro and have turned on setting to show comet with names.
