Regarding Rowan AZ100 compatability, you told me at NEAF that you would be interested in adding the AZ100 to the list of natively supported mounts. I am currently using LX100 protocol as per Rowan's instructions and it doesn't work exactly as expected so there are some underlying issues. I discussed with and was able to demonstrate those issues to the Rowan guys at NEAF and they agree that some compatability work needs to be done and they discussed that with one of your guys at NEAF so I figured I would outline the issues with you. I believe their goal is for a user to be able to align solely with the more powerful SkySafari interface without having to use the AZ100 firmware interface's own alignment routine.
1) Turning on the mount at its home position of 0 degrees altitude and 180 degrees due south azimuth programmed into the AZ100 firmware results in the SkySafari cursor being due south but the altitude about 1/2 degree off the horizon. The horizon line bisects the FOV on the AZ100 firmware screen but at the same time is up half a degree in SkySafari.
2) There is apparently an issue using Polaris as an alignment star with the initial firmware, however they told me their latest beta firmware fixes that so probably was not a SkySafari issue.
3) Using another star for alignment, say Regulus, I point my telescope at it and click align in SkySafari, it asks me if I want to align on it and I click yes > the telescope moves off the star instead of the SkySafari moving its display to putting Regulus in the center FOV. The SkySafari align button is issuing a movement command to the telescope instead of aligning itself with my telescope.
4) It would be nice to also have either a sync function available in SkySafari as it is in the AZ100 firmware or to have subsequent align commands add to the first two star alignment for greater accuracy instead of (what I am told) subsequent aligns taking the place of previous ones with only the last two being utilized. Maybe there is a good reason for that that I am unaware of.
Thanks,
Steve
