Is ASIStudio Supported With SkySafari 6 Plus/Pro? (Answer: Not Officially At This Time)

on April 23 i used Sky Safari Plus (iPadOS) for the first time to control my Celestron NexStar 6se, and all worked fine right from the start.

we then had rain for weeks, and on May 11 i tried to use it but after many failed alignment attempts i gave up. i should note that i was using the reticle in ASIStudio with my ASI294mc, these alignment fails were NOT me. yes, the time & date, etc were right, of course i checked those. i continued that night using the hated hand controller on the scope to align.

last night, May 13, Sky Safari wouldn't even connect; it gave the Connection Failure dialog box multiple times, even after completely powering off the scope and quitting/restarting the app. i then immediately started up Celestron Sky Portal and it not only connected, but alignment was perfect the first time (even though i did a quick and sloppy alignment). i tried again this morning to connect via Sky Safari Plus on both iPad Pro and iPhone 12 mini, with Connection Failure again. again, Sky Portal connected right away.

i note that between those 2 uses, on May 12, the app was updated on the App Store.

    Mills,

ASIStudio is not officially supported.  We have not provided any documentation to suggest your specific configuration would work.

    You can:

    1. When using SkyFi 3, align first with the Celestron hand controller then connect with SkySafari 6 Plus.
    2. When using Celestron WiFi, connect & align using SkySafari 6 Plus.

    That's it for now.

    Thanks!

of course ASIStudio and the camera aren't supported -- your "answer" makes no sense. that all works from my laptop via USB3, and has nothing to do with the issue, i was just documenting that it was a precise align on the earlier attempt. i didn't even have the laptop, camera, and ASIStudio on the 2nd night!!!

the scope control is the issue, and it wouldn't connect on the 2nd night, repeatedly, and Sky Portal did immediately.

y'all broke Celestron Wi-Fi support with your latest release, at least for NexStar.

SkyPortal app uses ScopeType: Celestron WiFi

Do you have the correct ScopeType selected in SkySafari 6 Plus?

    Mills,

    1. In Help > scroll to the bottom > what version of SS6 Plus are you running?
    2. What version of iOS?
    3. How many iOS devices do you have, have you tested with?

    Thanks!

    11" iPad Pro (2018): SS6+: ver 6.8.4.1, iPadOS 14.5.1

    iPhone 12 mini: SS6+: ver 6.8.4.1, iOS 14.5.1

those are the 2 iOS devices i have used SS6+ on. both have failed with the message above, while Sky Portal works fine on both. i do have older iOS devices which i could check if you like, although they do not support the current OS's.

it just occurred to me to try with my copy of SS6+ for MacOS, version 6.8.2 (6820). that connects and controls the mount correctly.

as per my original post, SS6 Plus worked perfectly in every way on the iPad Pro as of April 23, would connect but not align on May 11, and by May 13 (after the most recent SS6+ update) would not connect on either iPad Pro or iPhone 12 mini.

i made no changes to any of the physical equipment in that time, nor to the equipment configuration in SS6+.

thank you for your continued followup on this, by the way; i am impressed by your diligence!

    best,

btw, i do not understand why this thread has been relabeled with a title unrelated to my original question, making it harder for anyone else experiencing similar Connection Failure issues to find.

again, on the 2nd incident (which is the primary focus of my post on connection failure) my Mac was 75' away and sleeping, the camera was not connected, and ASIStudio was not loaded.
