Trying to have my LiveSky Observing List include more fields

Hi all,

I have a short list of asteroids in my Starry Night Pro 8.1.0.2049 Observing List.  In my Starry Night observing list, I see all the relevant fields I want (e.g. Alt, Az, Mag, RA, Dec, and more). However, when I go to my LiveSky premium account and download my observing list CSV file, I only have five fields of data (i.e., name, common name, catalog number, RA, and Dec) and the RA and Dec fields are empty; no other fields along with the applicable data appear at all. The file size shows 1KB. When I do the same for my observing lists of stars I get a little more (i.e., the RA and Dec fields show the data), but I still do not get any more fields.

Please, how do I have my Starry Night fields and data appear in my LiveSky CSV observing list downloads?

Thanks

    Hello Eben,

I am the lead developer on LiveSky. Starry Night is a much more mature product. LiveSky doesn't fully support all of the export fields yet. This is something I will look into expanding on our next release of LiveSky.

Can you let me know what other fields you would like to see in the export?

    Thank You,

    Hi Kyle,

    Thank you for your reply.

In SN, I used to be able to create perfectly acceptable observing lists including the fields I needed for that night (e.g., if going to a star party, I would often include the distance field as guests would often ask how far some object was), export to Excel, tidy it a bit, and print. Thus, from what I understand of SN 8 Pro and your reply: 1 we can no longer export a CSV file directly from SN to our own drives; 2 we must use LiveSky, and; 3 as of now, few of SN's fields are supported in the LiveSky observing list feature. Am I understanding this correctly? I hope not. How can we export our SN observing lists with all our desired fields directly to our own folders in CSV format (i.e., without going through LiveSky or another system)?

If all is to no avail and if forced to wait for LS's next release, I would want Name, RA, Dec, Alt, Az, Appar. Mag, Kind, Constellation, Rise, Transit, Set, Distance, B-V, and Cat. number. Better yet, I'd appreciate simply choosing from the same set of fields as shown under SN File > Preferences > Cursor Tracking (HUD).

I've attached a png file copy of last night's SN observing list. This is representative of what I've been trying to download (field titles are not shown, and this one is for asteroids . . . so some fields aren't shown, such as the B-V color).

    Thanks.

    Hello Eben,

I like your idea of choosing a list of attributes to export (similar to HUD). I will add this to my list and explore the feature. It will probably be later in the year before new major features are released in LiveSky.

In the mean time, I am looking into what fields I can add to the default export. I'm going to set aside some time this week to evaluate and possible push an update.

I'll be back in touch soon.

    Happy fall, Kyle.

I'm going to attend and support a star party next week; what news do you have about our ability to print or download fully field-populated SN observing lists?

    Thanks and cheers,
