What are the boxes?

Sorry for the newbie question, but as I zoom in on a sky map I see boxes in boxes. What are they and how can I toggle them off? Thanks.

  Hi Steve,
  The boxes are locations of Dark Nebulae. To enable/disable go to Menu>Settings>Deep Sky>Dark Nebulae.
