Why Can't I Connect SkySafari 7 Pro To Celestron WiFi Using An UMIDIGI Android 11 Phone? (Answer: Read On!)

I’m a first-time user of SkySafari 7 Pro.  I can’t connect it to my ‘scope.

  • Scope - Celestron Evolution using Direct Connect.
  • Phone - UMIDIGI A13 Pro running Android 11.

Under Menu/Settings/Telescope I created this Preset…, Celestron Wi-Fi/Alt-Az GoTo/Direct Connect…, then saved and selected it.

To use SkySafari I did the following…

  • Powered the mount and connected the phone to Celestron’s Wi-Fi signal (named Celestron-2A4).
  • Tapped to open SkySafari, then tapped the Scope icon at the screen bottom which then displays the two Connect and Align & Connect buttons.
  • Tapping both buttons (one at a time) yields the same response…, Connection Failure.

Before SkySafari I used Celestron’s CPWI software on a Windows laptop.  This works, it connects to the mount.

Why can’t I connect using SkySafari on my phone?

    Ken,

    Please see here:

[### User Guide ###] How To Configure SkySafari 7 Pro + Celestron WiFi

    Are you doing all this?

What version are you running?  See Help > scroll to the bottom.

I've tested and SS7 + Celestron WiFi connects properly using 7.1.10.5.

    Hi Keiron,

Thanks so much for the illustrated guide to help me.

As far as I know, I'm doing everything in your provided User Guide link.

1 - Connect to my Celestron WiFi network.

    2 - Settings > Telescope > Preset > create Preset.

    • Other connection.
    • Celestron WiFi.
    • Alt-Az GoTo.
    • Direct Connect.
    • Save Preset (with a checkmark beside the new preset).

    3 - Then Scope > Connect & Align.

4 - Then comes the Connection Failure error screen (below).

My phone's distance to the mount is only 0.5 meters.  Your suggestions appear to be the same as I tried many times before..., but I tried it again following your illustrations.  The same Connection Failure results.  I've attached a screenshot of the failure message.

    I'm using Android 11 and SS 7.1.10.5.

My connection to the scope works when I use my laptop running CPWI.  Is there something else that I can try please?

    Thanks.

Also, try the simpler solutions offered here:

    https://tecnuevo.com/umidigi-a11-pro-max-wifi-not-working-13-ways-to-fix-it/

And, try another Android phone if you have one.  See if the issue is with the phone specifically or the Celestron WiFi.

    Thanks!

    My SkySafari 7 Now Connects!

Keiron, you went out of your way to help me.  You figured the problem was with my phone.  You then actually researched my phone’s make and model to figure out why SS7 wouldn’t connect to my mount.  It appears my UMIDIGI phone wouldn’t recognize Celestron’s WiFi because it has no internet connection..., so it simply ignored it.

As per your suggestion, I tried the phone’s “Tap for Options” message.  This yielded an option to “Stay Connected” followed by “Don’t Ask Me Again”.  With both selected SS7 then connected the phone to my mount.  To test it, from power-off on both the mount and the phone, it connected normally multiple times.  Using Settings I’ve now set up SS7 the way I want to run it.  SS7 now works great!

This is fantastic product support.  I now look forward to using SkySafari 7 Pro on my mount.  Thank you so much for helping me Keiron!
