L2 Pup (HD 56096) is charted in SS7 as a 4th magnitude star, the SS data indicates the star varying from 2-6. This was once true, but these days it no longer becomes anywhere near that bright. This evolving star has settled down into a magnitude range of 6-8 for the last several decades due to a developing planetary nebula around the star, shrouding it with dust. At the same time the star is probably becoming a white dwarf and permanently fading.
If you look at the sky and compare to the SkySafari Chart you may note a missing bright star! A bit confusing if you are star hopping the area.
