Why Does My Mount Slow Down When Slewing To An Object? (Answer: Check Power Source And Mechanical Issues)

Hello. When I clink on GoTo, the slew rate is fast, but before the telescope is even close to the target, the rate slows down. I need to stop the slew and click on GoTo again to increase the slew speed. Is this normal behavior? Thanks

    Gordon,

This is not likely an issue with our software.  The selected slew rate does not change via the app, unless you select a different slew rate.

I will guess, however, this is an issue with the power source for your mount.  Or, perhaps, an hardware issue regarding the gears.

Please look into those possible issues.

    Thanks!

Hi Keiron. I tried a slew just using the hand controller and the skews did not slow down as with SkySafari & SkyPortal. Do you have any additional thoughts based on this information? Thanks. Gordon

Please keep testing, confirm the hand controller vs the app really makes a difference.

Also, it would help if you could make a screen recording of SkySafari slewing to the target.

Share a link to the screen recording via Dropbox or similar file sharing service.

    Thanks!

    Hi Keiron.
We don’t get many clear nights in Pittsburgh, especially this time of year. I will do a test inside and send a video. I don’t know if that’s ok or not. Last night I was outside but the clouds rolled in before I could do any video. However, the problem persisted using SkySafari. Thanks.
