SkySafari 7 Pro On Apple Vision Pro

Any thoughts about how SkySafari iPad will look and feel on the new Vision Pro headset next month?  Seems like SkySafari would be an awesome application on Apple Vision. Is Simulation Curriculum doing any updates to optimize on Vision?  Should run unmodified, but what will the experience be like?

    Jim,

It's a great question.  Developers have not prioritized updating the app for Apple Vision Pro at this time.

If you're getting the Vision Pro, please let us know what the default experience is like.

    Thanks!

    Hi Keiron,

Thanks for your note.  I am seriously thinking about picking up a Vision Pro at their launch in 2 weeks.  I will definitely be trying to run SkySafari on it.  Could be a really cool app for Vision!!!

Don't know if you remember, but I met you at the Texas Star Party pre-pandemic...  you, Bill Tschumy and I shared a TSP motel room for the week.  I still see Bill every so often at our Longmont Astro Club meetings or thru emails.

    Hope all is well.

Ah, yes, I remember you, Jim!

    That TSP was awesome!

So nice to say hello again.

Let me know if you get Vision Pro.

    Thanks!

Well, I sold my house, bike, car and rights to my smartest kid to pre-order an Apple Vision this morning. So on Feb 2, I’ll find out how Sky Safari looks on a 100-foot wide virtual screen! 🤡🤓

Well, I’ve had my Vision Pro for about three weeks now. Pretty fantastic product!! And of course, one of the first programs I downloaded and tried it was sky safari from the iPad. And it ran Pretty darn well. It opens right up in front of you and you can move it around resize it and make a 10 or 20 foot wide screen if you want that you have to actually move your head side to side to see. And I was quite amazed at using eyes and snapping your finger to select objects up in the sky to get information or to control my telescope. Fact it was easier to select individual objects with eyesight and it is with my big fat fingers on an iPad. What would be very exciting would be for you to open up the actual sky image and let it be fully immersive and separate the control panel so that floats and stays fixed in the middle just basically have the entire sky above and around you look from horizon horizon turn around see the entire sky and then be able to select objects like things, etc. It would be an incredible application for immersive 3-D. Since you can dial-in between full AR when you see your surroundings and VR where your completely enclosed this is where the compass view could be really incredible where you superimpose your sky image on the actual sky. To have the VR mode of just being able to move around and see things would be incredible. Jim Boulder.

    Hi Keiron,
I’m going to paste the link to a movie I made with my Vision Pro glasses while using sky Safari floating in my living room. See what you think, and let’s see if this actually comes through to you to view.
