Meade LX200GPS connection problem - window says upgrade the scope firmware to 4.2g

Originally from ticket #6237.

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 7 OS. I installed Starry Night Pro Plus 6.4.3 and ASCOM 6SP1on the computer. I have a Meade LX200GPS telescope with Autostar 3.01 firmware. Now if I run Autostar Suite the scope connects and slews properly. When I open Starry Night as administrator I can get through the telescope configure and properties screens but wen I try to connect to Starry night there is a window pop up that says I should upgrade thr scope firmware to 4.2g. I don't want to upgrade the firmware. How do I get to connect without up grading. The last time I tried to upgrade I had to send my scope back to Meade in Calaforina to be reprogramed.

As far as firmware is concerned, if you want to connect to Starry Night, I have to recommend that you upgrade as the message states.

Please attach a screenshot of the error message.  I would like to see which software program is producing the error message.  I suspect it is an Ascom error message - and we do not write the Ascom drivers.  This is something beyond our control.

Upgrading firmware should not require sending the scope off to the manufacturer.  It is a procedure that can be done  with your computer.

Please see this Meade webpage here for the full procedural description:

    How To Upgrade Your Handbox

To upgrade your Autostar first click on the link below to download the Autostar Update (ASU) Client Application for Windows. If your web browser allows you to open the installation file, you may choose that option when prompted. Otherwise, just save the install file to your local hard disk drive. When downloading is complete, double click on the saved file to start the installation. Follow the instructions provided to install Autostar Update (ASU) on your machine. When installation is complete, start ASU by selecting "Start Menu" -> "Programs" -> "Meade Inst" -> "ASU". If you have an active Internet connection and your telescope with Autostar is connected using the appropriate cable as listed above, ASU will detect and install the correct Autostar code directly from Meade's web site via the "Upgrade Autostar Software Now" button.

Yes it should be easy to upgrade to the latest firmware, however I made a mistake the last time and erased everything which left the scope unable to load the new firmware. So that is why I am so afraid to upgrade. It costs a lot to send that scope from New Jersey to California. I will get a screen shot as you asked, but it may take some time. I need to do this in the day time. Probably will not be to Saturday or Sunday.
