Spaceship mode

I think I understand why purists wished to do away with spaceship mode, but for the occasional jaunt I think it was a good idea.

As an educational tool it gave a  good sense of relationships hard to obtain any other way (e.g., the location of the Milky Way with respect to the Magellanic clouds, Andromeda, etc. It offered a sense of "vastness" to students as well as local positioning info.

It broke my heart after installing the upgrade to see spaceship mode was removed. I've spent countless hours giving tours to kids and adults. It was really a beautiful mind opening feature that brought many people to buy copies of Starry Night and learn more about the cosmos and astronomy. We'll need to revert back to version 6 the next time someone asks for a free range tour. Truly disappointing :(

I just shelled out big $$$ to purchase Pro Plus Version 7 only to discover that Spaceship Mode is no longer available.  Since being able to navigate throughout the Solar System, Galaxy and Universe was the primary reason I purchased Starry Night 7 with it's advertised fully rendered Stars and Exoplanets I am requesting a full refund of my purchase price.  I am not a profession astronomer and I don't own a telescope so the only useful function I am interested in is the ability to flight sim (spaceship) from place to place.  If all I wanted was static photos of stars and galaxies I could obtain much better quality by going online to Astronomy Picture of the Day which would be much easier and cheaper. Simulation Curriculum Corp,  Please return my money - - so far you have ignored my request and will be forced to file a dispute with my credit card company if I don't receive a refund soon.  Not a good situation.

I guess comments are censored.  I requested a refund from Simulation Curriculum Corp because of my dissatisfaction with Version 7 of Pro Plus.  Without Spaceship Mode or anyway to navigate throughout the solar system, galaxy and deep space, the program is useless to me.

Bill, it doesn't appear that the company reads or responds to customer comments. Perhaps the company is in financial straights. Too bad if so.

We all need the function "spaceship", already present in StarryNight 6.

You should take into account the views and needs of your best customers.
Not many people really buy both version "Pro Plus 6" that "Pro Plus 7".

    Thank you Simulation Curriculum.

How can you EXPLORE the universe if you can't Fly Through the universe?  Give me Star Trek mode and at least Warp 9!

@Keiron, I just installed version 7.5 on the Mac. During the install it said it now supports Spaceship Mode but Spaceship mode is not an option in the app, and the help documentation doesn't reference it. Did I misread?

    Hi Dan,

Spaceship mode is in the Pro and Pro Plus versions of SN7.

    Keiron,

I found in in the Pro Plus version. However, unlike the previous versions, space is now empty. Previously, there were 3D galaxies which gave a sense of the volumetric density through which you were flying.  Are there settings to bring that back?

    Thanks,

    Dan.

    HI Dan,

Try elevating from your start location and move up until out of the galaxy and then select spaceship mode - do all the then galaxies appear?
