Generally speaking, is there a magnitude limit on asteroids at opposition when I automatically download updates; i.e. are all asteroids brighter than mag=x available to Starry Night? Also, is the asteroid file constantly changing with time or is there a stable, minimal database?

    Hi Michael,

The asteroids file is supplied by a third party, Lowell Observatory. Because having too many asteroids would slow down Starry Night's performance, it is limited in size, concentrating on currently observable asteroids plus a few core objects of long-term interest. A more complete list is available online, but, as I say, slows down Starry Night significantly.
