I I would like to edit the appropriate files to change some star names to their German names

Originally from ticket #6213.

I would like to edit the appropriate files to change some star names to their German names (“Vega”à”Wega”, “Arcturus”à”Arktur”, “Betelgeuse”à”Beteigeuze”) as well as three of the compass point labels (“E”à”O”; “NE”à”NO”; “SE”à”SO”). Is there a way to change them?

Unfortunately, editing these strings manually is not supported in Starry Night. We have an old German version of Starry Night, but it is no longer supported.

That said, you can add additional star names by editing the CrossID-E.txt file in the Sky Data folder. You need to map from your new name e.g. "Arktur" to the HIP-TYC star number. See the examples in that file. It's pretty straightforward.

    Good Luck!

I have attempted to "add" additional names to "CrossID-E.txt" file but with no results... please clarify exactly how this could be done. Using the examples within the that file are straightforward, but again no results. Thanks :)

Would this be the correct format???
