Calculating the International Space Station transit of Sun or Moon

Originally from ticket #6465.

I am trying to use Starry Night Pro to calculate times when the International Space Station (ISS) will transit the sun or moon. I have two questions please:

(1) Is Starry Night even capable of doing this? I Googled but found nothing of any help.

(2) Starry Night is incorrectly telling me it cannot determine when ISS will ever be visible at my location, even though both the NASA and Heavens Above clearly show no less than 3 visible passes for tonight, June 7, 2012. And yes, I did update my latest elements before searching

Calculating the visible passes is something that certainly needs work in Starry Night. That said, using the Ephemeris Generator is a great way to find when and where certain objects will be, and I encourage you to try it out. Right-click on an object or click the arrow in front of its name in the Find panel, and choose "Generate Ephemerides."

Using Starry Night Pro Plus 6.3, how does one locate the ISS in the first place in order to "Generate Ephemerides" for it?

    Hi Bob,

Open the Find tab (left hand side) ---> in the search field type "ISS" ---> from the listed results right click on "ISS" of the "Satellite" kind ---> then choose Generate Ephemerides.

    Does that work for you?
