Unable To Connect To Meade LX200 Classic From An iPhone (Solution: Enable Local Network For SS7 On iPhone - iOS Settings > Privacy > Local Network > SkySafari 7 Pro > Enable)

Hi there. I am not able to connect to a Meade LX200 Classic via a SkyFi device using SkySafari 7 Pro 7.5.2 (1125) from an iPhone 15, iOS version 17.6.1. I can connect from an iPad however.

To reproduce, follow the following steps with the iPhone:

AUTO-DETECT OPTION

  1. I have checked that SkyFi is on, and that the phone WiFi is connected to SkiFi.
  2. Click on Add Preset from the Presets menu
  3. Choose a connection type: SkyFi
  4. Step 2: Mount Type = Alt-Az. GoTo; Scope Type = Meade LX200 Classic. Click on Next
  5. Step 3: Select Autodetect. Click on Scan Network for Devices. Result: The Step 3 page is displayed. There is no IP address, no port number, Scope is Astro-Physics GTO, Mount is Alt-Az. GoTo (This should be Meade LX200 classic I believe). I then clicked on SkyFi settings Web Page, the page was displayed, and when I returned to the Step 3 page, the settings had changed to no IP address, no port number, Scope: Meade Classic LX200, Mount: Alt-Az. GoTo.
  6. Click on Scan Network for Devices
  7. Message on Step 3 page is displayed: "Could not auto-discover a SkyFi device. Try a manual connection.

MANUAL OPTION

  1. This follows immediately from step 7 above. Select manual configuration
  2. Set IP address = 10.0.0.1, Port Number = 4030 (These are the settings used on my Sky Safari 7 Pro, 7.5.2 (1125), iPadOS version 17.7.1, which successfully connects)
  3. Click on Check IP and Port for Devices
  4. Message displayed: SkySafari 7 Pro can't connect to SkyFi. Make sure you've joined its WiFi network, and entered it's IP.

Regards,

Gordon

    Gordon,

Please share a screen recording link that shows this behaviour - use DropBox or iCloud, etc.

    Thanks!

    Gordon,

Do you wish to continue troubleshooting, or I will mark it as closed, and assume you have it working.

    Thanks!

Hi Keiron, please keep open. I haven’t managed to make the recording yet. Will do that tonight.

    Hi Keiron

Link to screenshot is at end of this message. The connection is successful on my iPad (which I usually use for connecting) but not from my iPhone (which I do not usually use for the telescope). FYI that to me the problem is not of great urgency as the iPad connection works fine.

    Thanks,

    Gordon

Hi Keiron, local network was disabled for SS7 on the iPhone. I enabled it and the connection now works perfectly! Thanks for helping me with that.

Guess you don’t need this info anymore, but for the record it was SS7 Pro 7.5.2 (1125), iOS version 18.1.1, iPhone 15, Model MTMH3VC/A.

Thanks again! This is such a great product and a pleasure to use, both at the telescope when observing, at star parties for the public, and at home on the couch!
