Why Can't Starry Night Plot The Path Of 3I/ATLAS? (Answer: Read On!)

If Starry Night 8 is unable to plot the Unfortunate highly eccentric orbit of 3I/ATLAS making it beyond the simulation capabilities of Starry Night.

If you want to track 3I/ATLAS please use SkySafari 7 Plus or Pro which is a cell phone app.  I find it strange that the power of I9 CPU with 64 Gigs of memory and 8 T of SSD cannot keep up with a cell phone.  Is Starry Night  being dropped.  Do we need to move to TheSky?  Or maybe re-write it when Windows 15 comes out?

    Hi Robert,

The Starry Night source code does not permit objects of such eccentric orbit.  This was by design, by the original developers, 20 years ago.

Adding 3I/ATLAS to Starry Night would require a major rewrite that is not possible at this time.

As you said, SkySafari models 3I/ATLAS perfectly.  So, we still offer a solution.

Starry Night is still far more powerful than SkySafari (IMO).

Starry Night is DEEP with many layers, and an extraordinary ability to simulate from any point in space.

    Thanks!
