DeepskyLog Export Errors Create SkySafari 6 Import Issues

Importing skysafari files from Deepskylog.com does not work properly. I create a sky safari import file fron the Webb - Celestial Objects for Common Telescopes. This takes a bit of time. At the bottom one can choose the export format. Choosing skysafari results in SkySafari being choosen to open the file.

Problem is, Sky Safari skips about 1500 of the 1800 objects, so I end up with a very incomplete list. Only the deep sky objects are there, not the numerous double stars, nor the less numerous stars with interesting colors. Which is a bummer as the double stars are what makes Webb interesting.

Second problem. For some reason SkySafary creates observations too. No idea why. Now, I cannot delete the Webb list because it has 300+ observations attached to it. And observations can only be deleted one at the time. I am not going to do that manually.

Can you please send me the file you are importing into SkySafari?  I imagine that the DeepSkyLog is not creating the file correctly.  They are probably writing out catalog designations in a format we do not recognize.  I also suspect that are writing out an "empty" observation with each entry and that is why this is happening.

I can look at the file but you will probably have to talk to them about correcting the problems.

Please email it to "bill at simcur dot com".

For others following along, Sander sent me the .skyset file he is trying to import.  There are at least 3 errors in the format that DeepskyLog is exporting and that is why he is having problems.
