Starry Night Celestron SE vs Starry Night Pro

I just started studying Starry Night SE that came with my Celestron CGX and I cannot get some of the actions that are discussed in the tutorial to work.  Specifically, I cannot get the Angular Separation Tool to function nor can I find the command under the Cursor Tool.  The only version of SN7 that excludes this function is the CSAP version.  However the SN7 SE will connect to and allow operation of my telescope. Neither the Enthusiast or the CSAP versions of SN7 description/comparison chart indicate that the function is included in these versions.  How does the Celestron Starry Night 7 Special Edition (SN7-SE) compare to the 4 different versions listed on the Starry Night Web Sight; Pro Plus, Pro, Enthusiast and CSAP?  I hate to waste time trying to learn something about a program that does not exist in the version that I have.  If the SE version is limited, do I get any discount to upgrade to a more robust version?

    Hi Jim,

Starry Night SE is equivalent to CSAP + telescope control.  Your analysis regarding all the programs is spot on.  Except, CSAP does not include the Angular Separation tool.  Unfortunately, the user guide is not always clear about to which program(s) it is referring when discussing features.  However, as a free program included with the purchase of your telescope Starry Night SE is a very nice program because it includes telescope control.

If you would like to upgrade to a more advanced program, and you also want telescope control, then you will need either Pro or Pro Plus.

You've seen the comparison chart, so you know what each offers.

Please let me know if you have any further questions about upgrading.

    Thanks!
