SkySafari 6 Pro | Where Is Hoagg's Object In Serpens?

Can't find hoagg's object in Serpens. Looks for constellation and it wouldn't navigate to the constellation so I could look for it myself or andromeda v or 6 a search produces only andromeda vii the casiopia dwarf. Disappointed that the extra galaxies are only available through in additional purchase which means I'm not really getting the program for $20 like I thought i was I have to pay an extra 20 for additional galaxies . That being said I can't find how to purchase them even if I were inclined to

App Store says in app purchase but no info on how

    By a PGC catalogue number

Haog's Object is also known as PGC 54559 and you will find it under that designation.  The PGC catalog we use doesn't have the common name Hoag's Object attached to it.  This is in the standard database and you do not need any in-app purchases to see it.

We have had  few people complain about the in-app purchase of the extended galaxy and star databases.  I think this is based on a misunderstanding.

Without the in-app purchase you are getting the same databases that you got in SkySafari 5 Pro.  We are not taking anything away (in fact, the default databases in SS6 are better in many ways).  The in-app purchase just gets you extra galaxies there weren't available previously.

To make an in-app purchase, go to Settings > In-App Purchases.

I found the galaxy under the pgc designation but it is incorrectly described as a spiral galaxy not a ring galaxy. I had problems with getting version 4 to sit still and cooperate with me and didn't upgrade to 5, I upgraded to 6 because of a voice recognition ad that I sttill can't figure out how to use. I feel like I'm paying to beta test

the program will not display this galaxy or the more distant ring galaxy visible in the background in wikipedia images.

I can faintly see the ring in the DSS image that I can download in SkySafari 6.   Search for it by PGC number, then in the Object Info screen, tap on the three dots at the bottom right.   From the pop up menu, choose "Show DSS Image"   Admittedly, this isn't a Hubble image ... but I like it because it gives a realistic view of the star field in my scope.

The PGC catalog describes it as a spiral galaxy.  All we can do it display what the catalog tells us.

Did you read the help on voice recognition?  Help > Settings Help > Appearance & Behavior Help.

I can also see the faint ring in the DSS image.  The DSS images are not going to be as detailed as images taken specifically of the object.  These are "survey" images.

perhaps a ring galaxy is an aberrant type of Spiral, but wikipedia calls it a ring galaxy because its a central bulge surrounded by a halo instead of the normal spiral arms. Theories suggest spiral galaxies disrupted sufficiently by a gravitational disruption might become rings.
