SkySafari 6 Pro: Observe/Observing Lists/Actions & Setting

When I select the above, and then Highlight Objects it works ok. Often when I also select Hide Observed a long hesitation occurs and the program crashes.

Also, just as a test I logged a galaxy, yet it still shows highlighter (blue circle) when Hide Observed is selected in that Observing List.

    Kent,

Sorry you are having this problem.  About how many objects are in the list you are highlighting and how many are observed?  I'm just trying to figure out how to replicate this.

I will also look into the highlighted object not disappearing when it has been observed.

I thought the size in the list might be the problem. This particular list is all the NGC galaxies I have not observed in the northern hemisphere; probably a few hundred. The Hide Observed doesn't work, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Could you give me the exact number?  It is displayed to the right of the list name when you are looking at your list of lists.  There is some different code that gets executed when you have more than 500 (I think) objects in the list.  Just curious if that is coming into play.

With respect to the object not getting unhighlighted after you make an observation.  How are you making the observation?  It is only removed from the highlighting if the observation is tied to the list that is highlighted.  This is automatic if you make the observation by clicking on the object in the list and choose Edit/Create Observation.  However, if you are in the sky chart and select the object and choose "Create New Observation" from the Selection menu, then it is not automatically tied to any list.  You have to set that manually in the Observation Edit screen.  I suspect that may be your problem there.

I take back my previous comment.  If you have a list highlighted and create an observation from the Selection menu, I do attach that list to the observation (assuming the object is actually in the list).

I did find a couple of cases where I was not correctly updating the on-screen highlighting after making or deleting an observation.  I'm pretty sure this is what was causing this bug.

We are going to push an update in a few days and that should fix your problems with highlighting.

Still trying to figure out your crash.

OK, I look forward to testing the update.

I REALLY like "Show Observations" in SS 6. It only takes a fraction of the time SS 5 took. It was so slow I rarely used the feature. Now it's terrific.

Along those lines, anyone using the Swift Key keyboard app (a wonderful app) on iOS might notice your observations won't show up sometimes. For example, if I search in upper case:

    Messier 13 .... no observations

Yet if I type in lower case

messier 13 ... my observations show. Probably an issue with Swift Key but I thought some people might find it useful to know.

I haven't experienced an issue using Apple's keyboard.

The number of objects in that List is 611.

OK, that is good to know.

"When I select the above, and then Highlight Objects it works ok. Often when I also select Hide Observed a long hesitation occurs and the program crashes."

Can you describe this more?  Do you show the Actings & Settings and then immediately turn on Highlight Objects and then quickly Hide Observed?  I haven't been able to reproduce this so any information about when it happen and when it doesn't would be useful.

I tried to get it to crash and it just wouldn't. Then, suddenly it crashed again. And yes, it occurs after I immediately switch from Highlight Objects to Hide Observed. Now, whether that quick switch has anything to do with it, I don't know. Note: it occurs in that large list of 616 objects. So far it hasn't occurred in smaller lists.
