Does SkyWire Work With Celestron USB Hand Controllers? (Answer: No - Get SkyFi 3)

I recently bought a skywire for use with my Celestron Nexstar 5SE in the hopes of using SkySafari Pro on an iPad.  I also acquired the Simulation Curriculum adaptor recommended by Simulations Curriculum (https://store.simulationcurriculum.com/collections/accessories/products/telescope-serial-cable).  Unfortunately, my handset on the Nexstar has a micro-usb port rather than a traditional RS232 and/or phone-jack style port.

I read repeatedly NOT to use the AUX port on the base of the telescope.

Is there any way to get the SkyWire (wired) connection between an ipad/iphone and a Nexstar5SE with the micro-usb port on the handcontroller?  Worried about buying the only RS232 to micro-usb adaptor I can find (here) out of concerns for communication protocols.

Help!

Thanks to all!

Sorry, not the SkyWire can't be used with the new Celestron USB hand controllers.  Some people suggest putting a serial-to-USB adapter between them but this will not work without the appropriate drivers, which can't be installed on the iPhone.

I understand it can be hard to find all the relevant info on a purchase, but in the specifications on our product page we do say:

    • Telescope compatibility: any telescope model with an RS-232 serial port.
    • Not Compatible with:  Celestron USB Hand Controllers

    Hi Bob,

We are going to contact you about returning the SkyWire.  If you want to pay the difference we can send you a SkyFi 3 instead.  And, SkyFi 3 does work with Celestron USB.

    Thanks!
