SkySafari 6 Pro | How To Perform A Star Alignment When Using A DOB? (Answer: Select Your Star In SkySafari -> Center Your Star The Eyepiece -> Select Align in SkySafari)

OK I went and installed a Nexus wifi and interfaced to my ipad mini.  I have a DOB and started to play with the setup in doors before hauling the big scope to a site.  Everything looks good but I find Sky Safari star alignment rather vague.

The instructions of alignment is to "select a star".  When you have an ipad does that mean you tap your screen to get the cross hairs to a star.  Is that how you "select a star"?  What about the "selection" tab below?

OK I think you first point the scope at a star say Polaris and when you have it in your red dot finder and viewed with a low power eyepiece to be in the center,  then you tap the screen to select Polaris and then press "Align".  Is that how it works??

You know your app is fantastic but in the help tab maybe think of a set of instructions to assist us on how to "perform a two star alignment".  Maybe best to even suggesting within the app what stars are best to use at a certain time/date.  That would be nice.  Just saying.

Thanks

Timothy

    Timothy,

"Selecting a Star" generally means to tap it on the screen.  You can also select objects by choosing them from the lists, but that is probably not the common use case here.

You then center the selected star in the telescope's FOV and then tap Align.

I will see if we can't make this clearer in the Help.

Thanks Bill for very prompt response.  I am so pleased to have this app installed and working on my 14.5" NightSky DOB.  Now I have to take it out to a dark site.

    Regards....Timothy
