SkySafari 6 Pro Fails To Connect With Celestron 4SE (USB HC) Using SkyWire (Answer: SkyWire Is Not Compatible With Celestron USB HC - Get SkyFi 3 or Celestron WiFi Module)

Hello,

I have few questions about my installation. I have:
SkySafari 6 Pro
iPhone 8 with iOS 11.4

Celestron NexStar 4SE with the RS-232 communication port on hand control
SkyWireLightning (order #71778)

Well, the telescope was successful aligned and when I tried to connect I received the failure message below:
"Connection failure. The scope is not responding. Make sure it is connected and powered on. Also check that your scope type is correct. "

What did I wrong?
Thank you for helping.

Regards

Lopo

    Lopo,

    1. Are you sure you are using a Celestron serial cable?

    2. When you plug the SkyWire into the iPhone, do you see a message saying  "Your SkyWire accessory has been successfully connected."?

    Thank you for answering.

Yes, when I plug the SkyWire into my iPhone I have that message ( "Your SkyWire accessory has been successfully connected.")

Then I select the telescope Celestron NexStar GPS/SL/SE in Settings/ Telescope/ Setup.

The connection failure comes just after in the process.

To plug the SkyWire cable I'm using a Sartorius YCC03-D09 Mini USB Data Cable with RS232 (9-pin Female) because the SkyWire cable I bought didn't match the RS-232 port on the hand control. Otherwise I don't know where to find a Celestron serial cable.

Does the NexStar 4SE have a USB jack on the bottom of the hand controller?  It is one of the new USB hand controllers from Celestron?  If so, this will almost surely not work.

All the DB-9 to USB converters I've seen require some sort of driver installed.  The iPhone/SkyWire doesn't have those drivers.

We do mention on our SkyWire product page that it doesn't work with USB mounts.  You need an RS-232 serial interface to work with SkyWire.

If you recently bought this from us you should be able to return it for full credit.

So sorry. thank you for the clarification.

Last question: which sort of RS-232 serial interface do I need?

If your hand controller really has only the mini-USB connector on the bottom of it, then you will need to something like our SkyFi 3 unit that has a USB output.  There is just no way to using SkyWire with this hand controller.
