Skysafari 6 Pro freezing

I'm new to this, so here goes. I have an Evolution 8 wifi scope with Starsense and I'm using Skysafari 6 Pro on my ipad. Last night Skysafari keep freezing (as well as not being able to connect to Starsense) when I was trying to do a manual align. After numerous attempts, I logged out of the app and went to the Skyportal app, and it worked every time! Therefore, I know the scope and Starsense are functioning properly, but the Skysafari isn't. Any suggestions will be most appreciated

    Common problems are:

    1. Doing a StarSense alignment with the hand controller before trying to connect via SkySafari.  You cannot do this.  All alignment must be done from SkySafari.

    2. You did choose Celestron Wi-Fi as the the scope the, right

SkyPortal (in theory) has the exact same code running as SkySafari when using the Celestron Wi-Fi scope.  I would think you would get the same result.

Tell me more about what you mean by freezing.  The UI just sort of hangs?  How long are the hangs?

No, I did not use the HC at all, just my ipad wifi. Yes, I choose Skylink (Celestron's wifi network). Yes, I guess I would describe it as just a "hang," i.e., the little wheel just keeps spinning and I couldn't even cancel out of the hang. I had to exit the program, which is why I went to Skyportal. Actually, I have no idea how long the program hung up, I waited a minute or two before exiting.

    Thank you for your help

I'm not talking about the Wi-Fi network you joined.  I just want to make sure you specified Celestron Wi-Fi as the scope type in the Telescope Setup settings.

So did scope control work at all with SkySafari?  I thought you were getting periodic pauses, but now it sounds like maybe you were never able to control the scope at all.

I apologize, but I don't know where to find whether my Celestron Wi-Fi is specified (I went through all the menu options in the Starsense HC). However, I think this may be moot, since the scope aligned using Skyportal. Yes the scope control in Skysafari did initially work, in fact, I think early on I was able to solve one of three star plates. Then the program started to hang up more and more. I recall one error message saying it couldn't connect to Starsense, but with most of my other tries, after a brief bit of slewing the scope in order to start a manual alignment, Skysafari hung up and nothing worked, the wheel just keep spinning. Perhaps I should have waited it out...I only waited about two minutes before switching to Skyportal. My guess is I some how need to reboot Skysafari. Or, simply go out tonight and try to replicate the problem.

You specify the scope type in the SkySafari settings, not in the HC (don't use the HC at all other than to calibrate the camera).  Look in Settings > Telescope Setup > Scope Type.  My guess is you must have set this to Celestron Wi-Fi if it was working at all.

We may have to work with Celestron on this problem.  They are responsible for maintaining this code.

Went out last night and tried to manually align with SkySafari. After one successful "plate solved," I received the following error message: Add Alignment Failed, alignment pointing error too large. This occured everytime I tried (six attempts). Note: went to Skyportal and the manual align worked every time!  Could this be a problem with the SkySafari app itself? Mystery!!!

It is a mystery.  I am trying to get Celestron involved to help troubleshoot this.

In the meantime, you might try reinstalling the app.  Possibly there is some setting that is wonky.

Just deleted/reinstalled SkySafari. It makes perfect sense to do this, hopefully this will solve the problems.

I talked to Celestron.  He said to also make sure the time and location is set to the current time and your current location.  Having them off could cause these problems.

I'll check, however this is usually okay since it's coming from my ipad WiFi. I'll see if the re-installation of the app makes a difference. Again, much thanks for your help.
