Calibration not saved

Two nights ago after restoring my Starsense, SkySafari app, etc., everything worked perfectly, i.e., three-star, manual alignment and calibration. Last night I started with a successful, three-star alignment and received the message, "If this is the first tiem....you will need to calibrate." The scope was off target and, in fact, needed a re-calibration, which I did and everything worked fine from that point.

My question is why did I need to do a second re-calibration? Was I supposed to save the calibration setting in SkySafari upon exiting the first night? If not, why wasn't the calibration saved?

    Joseph,

    We have recently learned that if you have "Set Time & Location" enabled for the StarSense, this can cause the calibration to be discarded.  This is not really a bug but just the way the Celestron firmware works.  If you have that ON yo might try disabling it.  You will them have to ensure that the time & location in the mount is close to what you have in SkySafari.

    Interesting! Thank you Bill. When you say the time & location in the mount has to be close to what's in SkySafari, can you explain this? Are you saying the HC on the telescope should have the same time & Location as SkySafari?

    Yes, that's what I'm saying.  As long as location in the two s within (say) 50 miles, that is accurate enough.  The time should agree to (say) within maybe 5-10 minutes.

    Note that this situation came up when using SkyFi and connecting through the Celestron StarSense hand controller.  I don't think this same thing can happen with connecting via Celestron Wi-Fi.

    Just checked the settings and found that the "Set Time & Location" had been turned off, in fact, this option doesn't seem operational, i.e., I can't turn it on or off, it's just can't be activated. So back to my original question, since "Set Time & Location" was turned off, any other thoughts on why calibration wasn't saved? (note: "Save Log File" was also turned off, don't know if this is relevant).

    Don't understand you last comment. I never used the HC (it was detached from the scope), I only used SkySafari to align and calibrate.  I did calibrate via Celestron Wi-Fi.

    If you were using Celestron Wi-Fi then I don't think the "Set Time & Location" is the problem.  That option is OFF and disabled when Celestron Wi-Fi is chosen.

    You might need to contact Celestron customer support about this.  They maintain and support that code in SkySafari.
