SkySafari 6 Pro | 17 Crateris Mislabeled

Steve BellToday at 15:44

I am the national coordinator for the AL Double Star program.  This star its identified as N Hydrae in both Sky Atlas 2000 and The Cambridge Double Star Atlas and some reference needs to be made to N Hydrae in Sky Safari.  I have observers who are unable to find N Hydrae in Sky Safari even in the search function.  N Hydrae has been in the AL Double Star list for an extended period.  Not everyone has the wherewithal to search the internet for the cross identification.

    Steve,

Next time we rebuild the database, we can look at this again.  In the meantime, why don't you just add 17 Crateris as an alternative designation in the AL program?

I will say that SIMBAD *does not* list N Hydrae as an alternative designation for this star.

    Bill,

I have already submitted a change to the list, but that doesn't help those who have already downloaded the list and are working on the program.

Understood.  However, rebuilding the database is a large undertaking and only happens maybe once per year.

That, I understand.  It certainly isn't trivial.  Some will take literally years to complete an observing program, so a "fix" in the next DB rebuild is important.  I routinely recommend Sky Safari to everyone, double star or not.  Nothing else even comes close.  Thanks for your attention on this.
