Starry Night Pro 7 | Unable To Determine Star Rise/Transit/Set Times

I am using Starry Night Pro Version 7 to determine when a star with an exoplanet will be visible from my location (State College, Pennsylvania). I know it will be rising tonight, but when I right click on it in the search and select center I am told that Starry Night Pro was unable to determine a time when the star will be visible. It has always managed to advance time for previous objects.

I know that it is going to rise because I can advance time manually and see when the object is above the horizon and I know Starry Night Pro has the information, because I can see it on the graph information. Does anyone know how to fix this issue, or what is causing it?

Thanks

    Hi James,

    What is the star/object name?

    Thanks!

    Hi James,

If I right-click and choose to Generate Ephemeris at one hour intervals, for tonight, I get the following for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Yeah, me too. My issue is that when I try to center KELT-7, Starry Night Pro tells me that there is no good time to observe the target and that I have to suppress the horizon. If I drive time forward manually, it definitely rises.

Why doesn't this feature work for this exoplanet?

Also, what does the rises column mean? The target definitely rises

You can center the star when it is above the horizon.  If it is below the horizon then Starry Night will ask if you want to hide the horizon.  If it's below the horizon then you can't see it when centered.

Indeed, but it also asks if you want to go to the Best Time (example attached for the moon). This doesn't happen with KELT-7

    Hi James,

I see the issue, the rise, transit, set data is missing, and its a good question why that is.

    Let me investigate.

    Thanks!

    James,

This issues with the Kelt-7 data will not get fixed in SN7.  We are working on SN8 at the moment.  Expected release is end of 2018.  I'll log this as an issue for development in SN8.

    Thanks!

OK - thanks. I can work my way around the issue.

Is it a free upgrade to SN8 or will I have to pay to get the fix?

SN8 will be a paid upgrade.  You won't have to pay full price.  And, it will be discounted more on initial release.
