Is There A Complete List Of Included Sky Safari Photo Realistic Deep Sky Images - And I Discovered That A Translucent Horizon Hides An Object's Image

I'm curious if there is any comprehensive list of the deep sky objects where Sky Safari shows a photo-realistic image of the object when you zoom in.  For example, The LMC and SMC don't show images in the application. It appears that all the Messier Objects have images, but I find many other objects without these images.

I use Sky Safari is a (perhaps) unusual way - as a companion to articles I read in Sky and Telescope and Astronomy magazines.  I find this helpful to get more information about objects discussed in the magazines and context about location in the sky and related to objects.  Many of the objects described in the magazines - along with printed images - don't have photo-realistic images in Sky Safari.  I realize Sky Safari can't support everything, but I' not clear as when I should expect to find images.

    Hi Stargazer,

Unfortunately, there is not list to cross reference objects against included images in SkySafari's skyview.  But, you can always use the option to download the DSS image of any object so that you can see better what the object looks like.

    Thanks!

Thanks.  But is there any reason the LMC and SMC don't have images?  I did check and Starry Night 7 does have images.

    Hi David,

Starry Night and SkySafari were developed independently.

    Thanks!

Actually, Sky Safari Pro does have an image.  The problem was that I had the horizon set to translucent and when I centered on the LMC or SMC (below my horizon - live in las Vegas), the "Translucent" effect hid the image.  I figured this out by changing my location to Cape Town and then I could see the images clearly and then only fade out when you really zoom in.

It just didn't make any sense that these naked eye objects wouldn't have images.  I'm happy to find them.
