Elephant Trunk Detailed Image Missing in SkySafari 6

The sky view is missing a detailed image of the Elephant's Trunk Nebula.  This makes it very difficult to frame the object (especially with frame smaller than the object).

If I search for Elephant Trunk I find the nebula and I see its picture and outline.  What am I missing?  See attached image.

Other nebulas have more detailed images shown superimposed into the sky (like the Veil or the Dumbbell). This one does not. If I was trying to frame the “eye” of the Elephant Nebula with a longer focal length, (like in this APOD image below) it would be difficult since SkySafari doesn't have a high res version of the nebula.

May be a better understanding of the situation is needed.

I'm exploring using ASIAIR for imaging.  ASIAIR using SkySafari for telescope control and SkySafari is used from framing of objects (by adding the camera and telescope details for equipment).  The first object I looked at for trying to frame in SkySafari was the Elephants Trunk Nebula.  Unfortunately without it projected in detail in SkySafari it's not possible to frame in longer focal lengths.

I really don't understand your problem.  As I showed in my first screen grab (which seems to have been deleted), there is an outline and onscreen image of this object.  Do you not see this?

May be this picture better explains:

This is how I'm framing.  Again it's a longer focal length so I'm not capturing the whole nebula only a part of it.  And seeing the detail in the application makes it easier to target specific elements of the nebula.

    Does this explain it better?

OK, I understand now.  I think the (admittedly not very detailed) image shown is just part of our Milky Way image.  However, the outline should allow you to do a reasonable job with framing since we do show the outline of a the "trunk".

If is just not feasible for us to have  a built-in image for every deep sky object in our database.  The app would probably double or triple in size.

However, I can add the addition of a real image to our list of requests.  Not sure when or if it will happen though.

You could make it an installable catalog, broken into sections?  Or you could create a function for if Internet access is available it would allow downloading of the selected object?

Jason, I can see a good image when I choose "selection" and look at the info from the object. When there are very detailed images at the mainscreen, your framerate will be very low, if there are a lot of pictures.
