How To Make The Android “WiFi Connected, No Internet Connection, Do You Wish To Proceed?” Message Appear When Trying To Connect SkySafari To Celestron WiFi Module? (Answer: Issue Is With Android OS)

My android telephone connects to my telescope via a WiFi dongle.  Once I power up the scope and the dongle becomes active I go to settings on my phone, select wifi and tap the normal household WiFi address and various networks pop up including, Celestron WiFi.  Once I tap it it reports, “connected, no internet access.” Then I open my astronomy app, (Sky Safari) and attempt to connect to the telescope. I usually get a drop down menu within the Sky Safari app that says, “connection failed, no internet.”  After numerous attempts I get an Android drop down window that says, “WiFi connected, no internet connection, do you wish to proceed?” Once I check yes the Sky Safari connection works perfectly, connects and allows me total control via the phone, (Moto X4.)  My problem is that most times the, “WiFi connected, no internet connection, do you wish to proceed?” message doesn’t show up. Sometimes three tries and other time many repeated tries without the message therefore I can’t make the connection.

What Wi-Fi dongle are you using?  Is this the Celestron SkyQ Link (also called SkyPortal adapter)?  On my 2 Android devices I always get the notification that there is no internet access.

    Hey Bill,

It is the Celestron SkyQ Link.  Learned that it is an anomaly of certain versions of Android.  I gave up.  Got out my wife's old ipad, (2nd version) erased and reset it.  Created a new account in my name, loaded SS6+ and all appears to work great.  My scope, (8SE) is at Celestron being repaired.  Soon as it gets back to me I will try out the ipad for control.

Glad you have a work around.  This does sound like an Android / SkyQ Link problem rather than a SkSafari one.  If you want to pursue it, I'd talk to Celestron about it.
