Why Is Comet 46/P Position Incorrect (Answer: Elements Are Out Of Date - Update Minor Body Data)

I have SS5pro on 3 platforms  I updated Comets before session with Andriod last night/

OSX shows the Comet correct position.

IOS shows the Comet in correct position.

Android was displaying the comet way off  .So  I loaded another set of settings under save and restore settings, and selected an earlier setting file from early December .

Tweaked it today for last nights time , displays correct position now.  What happened here.?

I'm not sure what was happening.  The comet position should be totally unrelated to your settings.  My guess is the "Minor Body Update" was temporarily failing for some reason.

If you see this again, look a the bottom of the Object Info for the comet.  There you will find the "Epoch" of the orbital elements.  Note what this is and report it.  My guess is that the elements were out of date.

Also you said: "Tweaked it today for last nights time , displays correct position now. ".  You are aware that if the date is off, it will show the position for that date, not Now?  I assume you know that but your comment made me wonder.

Id had several layers of SS open while I was noticing the incorrect position of 46/P  . Reverting to an earlier saved setting and updating time to "now" put 46/P in the correct position.   Likely user error of some sort.

Ive the SS5pro on 3 platforms , so I  have to look in a different place to see the time and operate settings in between the Andriod ,IOS and OSX devices.

Are you referring to the " orbit epoch " date , or the entire set of orbital parameters?    I did not note those values before reverting to and earlier setting that I set to "now" and it appeared in correct position.

Just the orbit epoch is important to know if the elements are up to date.
