Why Is The Position Of The Scope In SkySafari Off By 90 Degrees Or More That Where The Scope Is Actually Pointing? (Answer: Using Celestron WiFi You Must Complete The Initial Alignment Using SkySafari, Not The Hand Controller)

Posted this last Night to the Help Section with no response yet.  Am hoping for answers:

Sirs;
I have a one year old Celestron NexStar Evolution 9.25. When first purchased I was never able to use the SkyPortal program to successfully align the scope. The indicated position of the scope on the program, and the actual position were always at least 90 degrees or more apart. As there is little support for SkyPortal, I merely gave up and used the hand controller, with immediate success in alignment. Today, I purchased and downloaded SkySafari 6 Plus, hoping for better results. Sadly it is exactly the same. I have followed the directions in FAQ's to "resync" the scope to my iPad to the letter, but after repeated attempts I have again given up. I selected two different bright stars (Sirius and Betelgeuse), centered the stars in the scope, tapped the star on SkySafari and touched "Align"...absolutely nothing. Repeated attempts produced nothing. The best I got was an error message along the lines of "scope position and SkySafari to far apart (duh), resync" I am certain I must be missing something, so I would appreciate some help. Again, the actual scope position target and the imagined position are at least 90 degrees apart. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise SkySafari turns into just another gee whiz...Thank you so much

    You can not align using the hand controller first.     I start with the OTA level and pointing in the same Safaris starts.   In other words if SkySafari is pointing north at the horizon I have the scope in the same position.   Once this is done I shut the scope off to reset its zero points and turn it back on.   Then I go to systems and make sure I have the wifi connection between my phone and scope then launch sky safari.    Make sure in settings in SkySafari that its set up to the correct scope for celestron.

    Now you can hit the scope icon on the bottom menu and connect once connected you can start the alignment process with the phone and only use the phone.

    You can not have the hand controller and the phone both doing the alignment.   Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the hints.  I totally disconnected the handset (had not been using it previously), and then began the alignment again.  Don't know what the difference was, but was succesful in aligning the scope that time, and the "crosshairs" aligned perfectly.  Thanks for your hints...
