Should I Use A US Controller WA232E WiFi Or SkyBT To Control My DSC/Sky Commander With SkySafari 6 Pro? (Answer: Probably SkyBT, But Read On!)

I want to use SkySafari 6 Plus with the Sky Commander DSC controller.  I can use either a US Controlller WA232E WiFi controller that will work with Sky Commander or the SkyBT.  What I am not clear about is even though the WA232E does communicate with the  Sky Commander, will it also work with SkySafari on an Android device usinfg WiFi communication, or will I be safer using the SkyBt bluetooth controller. The WA232E is cheaper, but if it does not work with my SkySafari set up, no sense in buying it.  Victor of Sky Controller has tested it and says it works with SkySafari and I take his word for it,  but I just want the device that will work best with my setup with out starting a flame war between vendors.  Your advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Jim Lawrence

    Jim,

In general I find Wi-Fi to be more reliable than Bluetooth.  Fewer problems connecting and greater range.

That said, in the past I have had troubles with the US Converters products.  It may not have been the same one you are talking about and it was 5 or 6 years ago.  I recall having to use a gender changer (or maybe a null modem) to get it to work.  It was a bit unwieldy.  I'm sure it can be made to work however.

A point in favor of SkyBT is that SkySafari automatically programs it to use the correct serial parameters your mount expects (baud rate, parity, stop bits, etc).  If you are just using this with a single mount this might not nbe an issue.  You program the device to match you mount and it should work.  However, if you switch between mounts you may have to redo this each time.
