Why Will SkySafari 6 Plus On Android Not Connect To iOptron's StarFi With An CEM40? (Answer: Update To The Latest Version Of SkySafari)

I have set up SkySafari exactly according to the iStarFi manual: http://www.ioptron.com/v/Manuals/7434_iStarFi_Manual.pdf

However, SkySafari returns an error:

The same failure occurs on both my Phone and my tablet.

I am able to use the iStarFi/CEM40 combination via my laptop, so I think I can discount a fault in either of them.

Any ideas?

Turns out that iOptron CEM Scope Control in Sky Safari 6 Plus is broken, and that the developers already knew about this. You could have replied with this information, @Developers!

I've found a friend with a phone with Sky Safari 5 Plus on it, and confirmed that scope control works fine. After help from another user (thanks!), I have discovered how to find "unpublished" apps in Google Play, so a temp fix is in place, but I would like to know the date by which you will have mended Scope Control in SS6+
    Thank you.

So, I received my new CEM40 and the iStarFi adapter. I figured this issue would be solved by now...but it is not. I am getting the same message that says "a connection has been made to the scope, but the scope is not responding".

Any idea what the time frame will be to fix this? It has been over two months since you've known about it. This is very irritating.

I would appreciate any information you can share regarding this ongoing bug.

    Thank you.

Hmm... it's not apples to apples, but this problem has been (silently) fixed for the latest version of SkySafari 6 Pro, CEM60, and iOS/MacOS.

I'm just fishing, but some questions, please forgive if you've already tried it..

    • Is this the latest version of SkySafari?
    • Are you using 10.10.100.254 and port 8899?
    • Can you login to the StarFi at http://10.10.100.254/ with admin/admin, just to see if you can reach it?

    Hi Steve, David,

    Please reply to Tom here.

I've read reports from Tom that the issue was fixed in the latest SkySafari.

Bill has retired, so, it's possible the release was fixed but we did not get  release notes.  There is no reason for us to be silent about a fix.

I was under the impression from another discussion that perhaps this issue was resolved via an iOptron firmware update?

If there are still issues let's discuss here.  But, please reply to Tom here as he has found success, and may know how to put you on the right track.

    Thanks!

    @Keiron

    • I can confirm that this problem has been (silently!) fixed.
    • I have not updated the iOptron firmware, so that is irrelevant; the fix was in SS6.
    • The fix was not, to the best of my knowledge, announced by the developer, either in these threads or in any release notes I have seen with SS6 tweaks (but I concede that I may have missed something: I'm not an avid reader).

    I hope that clarifies things.

Keiron Smith : tested my CEM40 today (fully upgraded with new firmware) with the iStarFi module with SkySafari 6.8.6.15 (Android) and I can confirm this is not working at all.

Is this issue supposed to be fixed or not ?

Note: the iOptron app works fine...
