Why Can't I Update Minor Body Orbit Data For 3 Weeks? (Answer: Issue On Android OS 4/5 Only - Best To Use A Newer Version Of Android OS)

In the past if you hit 'Update Minor Body Orbit Data' under Solar System tub in Settings it would hum a while and then return the report. Some thing like "120,000 bytes downloaded 10,000 solar system objects updated".

For the last three weeks however when I try to update I get back "downloaded 183 bytes, updated 0 objects". I checked with SS6p support and they say it means that SS6p can't connect to the Minor Planet Center server. I checked Minor Planet Center webpage and it seems that the server is online.

    Hi Andre,

I'm using SS Pro 6.3.2.46 on Android 9, and updated successfully.  See here.

    1. What app and version are you running?
    2. What OS?

Hi Keiron. I have been using this future for a few months since I upgraded to SS6pro with no problems until ~3 weeks ago. Otherwise, SS6pro is able to connect to the internet. For instance I can load and view DSOs photos under 'info'.

    SS Pro ver 6.3.2.46

    Android 4.4.4 on DROID Maxx

Thanks, Andre.  I think this is an Android 4 issue that we can fix in the next update.

    +1

Have been having exactly the same issue for some time now (possibly since last SS6Pro update).
Tried un-installing / re-installing the application with no change.
Running SkySafari 6 Pro (6.3.2.46) on Android 4.4.4.

While the issue might sound insignificant, it is in fact quite serious. For example:
The ISS location is off by so much that is is displayed near the Nadir when in fact it is above the Horizon and high in the sky. I did double check that time, date and location are all correct.
This is how I became aware of the issue in the first place.

    Please see screenshot below:

Any progress on identifying / resolving the issue towards the next release / patch?

    Thanks,

    Hi Keiron

I have noticed that recent update did not fix the problem. Are you still working to fix the issue?

    Thanks.

Same problem here! I can't update my SkySafari's Minor Body Orbit Data anymore. It's always the same update results, "Downloaded 183 bytes, updated 0 solar
system objects." I'm running SkySafari Plus 6.6.4.10 on Android 5.0.2. Can anyone please help? Thanks.

Indeed. Thank you for addressing this unique (old OS) issue.

    Same here.

Problem is back with "Downloaded 0 bytes" as described above.
Also, "Last Updated" field is stack on date of last successful update (May 23rd, 2020, in my case)

Running SkySafari 6 Pro (6.7.0.8) on Android 4.4.4.

I am running SkySafari6Plus on a 10 inch Android 5 tablet. I have tried multiple times in the last few days to update the minor bodies data and each time it has returned "Downloaded 0 bytes; Updated 0 solar system objects". SS6P reports minor bodies data last updated on 7/10/2020 05:04:27. I updated the app on 07/10/2020.

SkySafari6Plus is working fine on my 7 inch Android 9 tablet.

Is there any new info on this problem?

    Thanks

Android Tablet SM-T520 running Android 4.4.2 and SSP 6.7.2.0 will not update minor body orbit data.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 SM-950U running Android 9 and SSP 6.7.2.0 updates minor body orbit data without issue.

iPad Mini 4 MK892LL/A running iOS 13.6 (17G68) and SSP 6.7.2.4 updates minor body orbit data without issue.

Will we get an update to correct the issue with older Android OS's or do I need to shuffle my preferred SSP 6 installation to another device?

Same here. Thanks for the pointer!
Interesting to note that no update to the app was required.
    Thanks!
