I want to transfer my equipment list (and more settings if posibble) from SN7 to SN8 (both Pro Plus) and then to SkySafari 6

How is this done in an easy way?

    Hi Joaquin,

    To transfer between SN7 - SN8:

    1) In Starry Night VERSION 7 the Equipment folder is here:

    (Windows) \Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\Simulation Curriculum\Starry Night Prefs\Equipment

(Note that the AppData folder is often "hidden". A quick Googling can show you how to un-hide it)

    (OS X) /Users/<YourUserName>/Library/Application Support/Simulation Curriculum/Starry Night Prefs/Equipment

    2) You'll want to place the Equipment folder in the Starry Night 8 Prefs folder

On Windows, the “Starry Night 8 Prefs” folder is inside the “C:\ Users\<username>\AppData\ Local\Simulation Curriculum\” folder. On the Mac, the “Starry Night 8 Prefs” folder is inside the “User/Library/Appli- cation Support/ Simulation Curriculum” folder.”

In Starry Night 8 you can then login to LiveSky to sync your data.

Thanks Pedro. I did exactly what you say and it doesn't work. SN8 does not recognize the equipment folder coming from SN7. The way to follow seems to be to import SN7 data into SN8 via the menus. There is an "import V7 data" option in the "help" menu, that apparently recovers Equipment, FOV Indicators, Observing Lists and Log entries from SN7.I tried it and.....

The equipment list comes out somewhat differently grouped, compared to SN7. And all with a "custom" prefix

The personalised FOVs come out with no name, just dimensions. Wonder why they took out the name. I think I will recreate them

I am using SN7 Pro Plus version 7.6.0.1298, and just installed and testing SN8 Pro Plus with all updates (version 8.0.6.1978) both in Windows 10

Hi Joaquin, you are correct  the Import feature is the best solution we implemented - I'd forgotten about it! when i replied to you.  Hopefully you can make the changes you need now without too much trouble.  It's challenging given the significant changes in v8 (from v7).

Well, my experience so far is terrible with SN8 and Livesky.... It seems everthing is kind of beta, so buggy everywhere I look

After I import all equipment possible from SN7 into SN8, adjust to my taste, create new FOVs..., Then switch on Livesky ---> all hell breaks loose! Equipment etc. is uploaded to the cloud, then  downloaded to SkySafari 6 (syncing as it should be, yes). But subsequently, all equipment and FOVs disappear from SN8, SN8 no longer syncs with Livesky... sometimes some kind of equipment appears, sometimes not,  FOVs become invalid... What kind of joke is this?

It's over for me with this company, I think. Time to ask for money-back and look for a better alternative. I've had enough, for heaven's sake. Never seen before this kind of hassle with any other astronomy software....

Hi Joaquin, we are aware of a syncing issue with LiveSky and SN8.  Rest assured none of your data has been lost.  We are working on a solution and will release an update soon.  I understand this is frustrating having just purchased the app and using this specific feature.  Synching across all our apps and livesky is a complex process on the backhend so we want to be very careful when a new issue arises that we handle it correctly.  We will absolutely honor our money back guarantee if you can't wait until our next update.  We're trying. Thanks.

I agree with Joaquin Zafra 100%. I've been fighting with this time and again for years and years. It's 2021... we're nearly a quarter into the 21st century, yet this "feature" of Starry Night is stuck in 1992. I can accept that I don't have a flying car, but this hassle of losing my equipment lists, FOVs, locations, observing logs, etc. every time there's a new version is rather unforgivable. Why is this so impossible? I have an MS in geology and geophysics, so I'm probably not stupid... well, maybe my struggle with this demonstrates otherwise.
