How To Update Asteroid, Comet And Satellite Data In SkySafari 6 Pro? (Answer: Settings > Solar System > Update Minor Body Orbit Data)

Hi all,

I have questions about the frequency and possible manual update of data for Satellites and Comet.

I'd like to tell how old the data for the path of the International Space station is and manually update it if it older than a few day as well as adding new comet data ( i also have it on my Mac if that helps, never use it though)? The day to day the path of the ISS can drift, how can i tell how good/old my data is? can i force an update to pull from somewhere? Can i subscribe to something to pull the data. Is the Data already current and updates when i open the app?

The goal is to image the ISS less than 1 degree from a bright star as it passes my location, I've tried this before and missed the ISS, using sites like transit-finder.com are good for Moon transits but only happen 2-3 times a year in my backyard, and the skies aren't always clear, being able to target bright stars would be good. Did i just miss or is the data too old.

Number 2.

Update comet data in iOS Sky Safari.

Been wanting to look for C/2020 F8. keep checking every day, but no update.

How often is comet data updated? Can i force an update?

Thanks heaps

    Hi Tony,

The comets, asteroids, satellites data is automatically downloaded once a week.  However, you can download the latest data at any time by tapping the "Update Minor Body Orbit Data" link under Settings - Solar System (scroll to the bottom of the page). I see comet C/2020 F8 Swan when I do a search.

    Hope this helps.  Pedro

Thank you, this is perfect, 1 single clickable manual update.

I posted this elsewhere, but am still looking for answers:
When I first purchased the app for my iPhone, (May 12,2020,) I could see C/2020 F8 (SWAN) (actually, it is the reason I purchased the app.)
Now since yesterday (May 14, 2020,)it is gone from the app. Can’t find it. “No objects found matching search string”
So, I uninstalled, and then reinstalled the app. The first few times I open and close the app, it finds it immediately—it is in the “Brightest Comet” tab and I can search the string C/2020 and see several comets.
THEN, all the sudden, they disappear. Not just SWAN, but all C/2020 objects. They only reappear when I uninstall and reinstall the app.
I thought this would work, but there is no “Update minor body orbit data” link under settings/solar system. Just some switches to toggle off/on asteroids, comets and satellites.
