Why Won't SkySafari 6 Pro Make A Wireless Network Connection To An iOptron Smart EQ Pro Mount Using An iOS Device? (Answer: Must Use iOptron-Specific Serial Cable and ScopeType: iOptron CEM/EQ Pro/AZ Mount Pro)

This is my third attempt to post my problem. Each time, no post is generated and no one responds.  I cannot connect to my Skyfi with SkySarfari 6 pro from my iPhone or iPad.  I can see the skyfi settings web page and I have done all the hard resets, reboots, and everything else posted in this forum with absolutely no success.

    1. iOS version 13.5.1

    2. ioptron smart eq Pro German equatorial mount

    3. Hand controller Go2Nova #8408  Firmware information reads as follows: HC 170518, RA 161028, DEC 161028

    4. SkyFi 3

    5.  I cannot confirm WiFi network connection via mobile device.  How to do this?

    6.  Rs232 serial cable is from a prior SkyWire by Southern Stars

    7.  SkySafari Scope Type setting is iOptron Smart Eq/EQ/ZeQ sonf 8407/8, Equatorial Goto (German)

    8. Alignment type process - I am trying to get a connection to the scope before going outside.  I try one or two star alignment and just let the scope go to where it thinks the alignment stars are and click OK.  still no connection

    Turn on SkyFi 3

    On your mobile device:

    1. OS Settings > WiFi Settings > find and select SkyFi 3
    2. On iOS, you should see a checkmark that you are connected.  On Android, you should see "connected" under Current Network.
    3. If connection is confirmed go to 10.0.0.1 in a mobile web browser > you should see the SkyFi Settings Page.

Please tell me how far you get in the above steps.

I was able to select SkyFi 3 under OS settings.  There was  checkmark

I was able to see the SkyFi Settings page

I attempted to connect and got the following error message:

    Connection Failure

SkySafari 6 Pro can make a wireless network connection to the scope, but the scope is not responding.  Make sure it is connected and powered on.  Also check that your scope type is correct.

    Gooooooood!

So, now you have to align the scope.  Fake the alignment.  The connect with SkySafari.

    Fingers crossed.

What do you mean by this...

Rs232 serial cable is from a prior SkyWire by Southern Stars

Years ago, Southern Stars corporation made a product similar to yours but it used a directly wired controller to connect an iPod to a telescope. The rs232 cable came attached to the adaptor that connected to my ipod.  The composite cable worked when connected to a Celestron CGEM mount.  Perhaps,  this cable is no good.

The cable only works for Celestron mounts.  So, there is your solution.  Get an iOptron-specific cable and your setup will work fine.

We do not sell iOptron cables.

    Thanks!

I purchased an iOptron cable.  Same exact error message.

    Lawrence,

    Did you fake align first?

I did a one star fake alignment.  I have not had an opportunity to do a true alignment yet.

    Please try ScopeType:

    • iOptron CEM/EQ Pro/AZ Mount Pro

That seems to work.  I can connect to the telescope and get it to slew to objects in Skysafari at least indoors.  The true test is when I have it aligned on the actual sky at night.  Still, this is the biggest breakthrough.  Thanks.  I will update you.
