[Beta Testing]* SN8 LiveSky Sync Issue & SN8 Checks For Updates When Option Is Disabled

Hello

After updating from 8.0.2 to 8.0.6 on W10 my observing lists become unusable (blank name and empty...). Worse, some have been corrupted on SkyLive after using the "synchronize" menu command. Finally I was obliged to reload them using SkySafari.

At the end, I donwgraded to 8.0.2 and it works still fine. However, an other bug pops up : while the "automatically check for updates...." is unchecked, SN8 promps me to update each time I launch it... annoying. The resolution was to set my firewall to prevent SN8 from communicating via the Internet.

When do you think to fix all these bugs...

Regards, Laurent

    Hi Laurent,

The SN8 LiveSky sync issue is known and will be fixed in the next update due out in a couple of weeks.

The check for updates when disabled bug may be restricted to 8.0.2.  Did you have that issue running 8.0.6?

    Thanks!

I have the SN8 LiveSky sync issue with 8.0.6 only. I see the check for updates bug in 8.0.2 and can not see it with 8.0.6 since it is the most recent version. It may exist however...

    Hi Laurent,

We have a beta available for testing that provides a fix for the current LiveSky Sync issue with Starry Night on Windows.

We would like your confirmation that the issue is resolve.  So, please download and install one of the 8.0.7.XXXX betas from:

    beta.starrynight.com

If you don't yet have a beta account please sign up here:

    https://beta.starrynight.com/reqreg.php

In the Tell us about yourself just say "LiveSky Sync Test" or similar.

Please note, if you are running Pro Plus 8 then you can not install another instance of Pro Plus 8.  You can do one of the following:

    1. Delete Pro Plus 8 and install Pro Plus 8 (beta)
    2. Install Pro 8 instead

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide with the beta testing.

HI Guys I uploaded the Pro Plus 8 (8.0.7.2015) and tried it out last weekend. but I see there was another release on the 8th of July.   I always look for new beta and had the version just prior to the 8th.   It would be nice if some simple notes were posted on the released changes so that we know what to try out in addition to our normal work flow.

Anyway  I was one of the original posters of the sync problems with LiveSky and posted when the issues showed up in the beta release so I am familiar with the blank lists.

Anyway during my observation session (I use it to for my goto's) I had one issue with the lists going blank during a 4 hour session that I noted.   The  one instance of the blank lists also had my  FOV indicators for my scope  suddenly go to a strange size.   Anyway when the FOV failed the Observation lists also went blank.    I went and turned FOV off and on and the stuff reset.   It never repeated and I never had issues with scope control or goto's so I did not think much of it.

Note during all of my testing of beta's I never experience the LiveSky data being corrupted.   It was always consistent with my SkySafari or different beta test version of Starry Night that I have tested.   I only experienced the blank lists in StarryNight.

I will update the July 8 release and test it for this problem.   Note the issues seemed to have been solved during the November release of Pro 8, which I have used multiple times both with the telescope and without.

    Hi Donald,

This beta is only testing for the LiveSky sync issue using Starry Night Pro Plus 8 on Windows 10.

Please test again using the latest beta and let us know if you encounter the FOV issue again.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

Downloaded and installed. The first time I launch the application, it works and I can see my observing list safe (as they are) after login to livesky. Unfortunately, the second time I launch the app, it shows nothing (no observing list displayed) and I can not login to livesky and get "failed to log in" when I try to login again.
