[SN8 LiveSky Sync Issue] Beta Testing Update With Fix

I have StarryNight 8 Pro, SkySafari 6 Pro and LiveSky Premium.

I want to create a nightly observation list in StarryNight and then use SkySafari to drive my telescope to view the objects in the list and make observations that will show up in LiveSky.

But, when I use the different programs the data keeps getting corrupted (lists deleted or list name and observations lost).

Is there a best practice or suggested flow to do what I'm talking about?

I'm willing to adapt my practices to one that works I just can find a repeatable process that does not corrupt the data on my PC or Tablet.

Is anyone having success integrating between the three products?

    Hi Jonathan, 

    We are currently beta-testing an update for Starry Night Pro Plus 8 on Windows 10 that failed to sync correctly data from SkySafari 6 Pro and LiveSky.com.

    Specifically, the issue is syncing data with Starry Night 8 on Windows 10.

    Is this what you are reporting here?  Or, do you have a problem with SkySafari 6 Pro & LiveSky.com (when you login) as well?

    It seems to be mostly with Starry Night 8 (Windows 10) to LiveSky.  Observations from SkySafari are coming into LiveSky are Ok.
    Most bothersome is that when Starry Night  is syncing with LiveSky observation lists are corrupted on both.

    Also, equipment lists disappear from StarryNight - I assume it is also due to a background sync.

    Can you tell me when the sync between StarryNight and LiveSky happens?  It appears to happen in the background.  I was working is StarryNight and my FOV indicators went away.  When I checked my telescope and eyepieces had disappeared from StarryNight.  I had NOT manually executed StarryNight's "Sync with cloud now" option so I assume the sync is happening in the background.  I will work up some scenarios with screen shots to see if I can make the issue repeatable.

    Sync is happening in the background, yes.  Screenshots are only required if you are seeing issues on LivesSky.com.

    We are aware of the issue on Starry Night 8.

    I will join the beta.  Before I saw your reply I created a doc with issues.  But, I think they are all StarryNight issues and not with LiveSky.  I can provide a ms-word doc with all the steps and screen shots if you want them.  I don't see a way to attach a file (other than pictures) here.

    Keiron I downloaded the beta and it is now working exactly as I hoped.  My equipment, FOVs, sites, observations lists and observations are all now syncing correctly.  That is exactly how I hoped the products would work.  Yipee.  I see that I can use the beta for 14 days.  When will the update to Starry Night 8 Pro be available for use?

    HI Keiron, I have tested both Pro Plus and Pro 8 versions recently released July 8th and 9th and the observation lists and Fov indicators are working as expected with the release.

    I have the same problem here: I have bought SN8 Pro today (V.8.0.6.1979). I am already using SkySafari 6 Pro and the synchronisation doesn't work: the data from the cloud is corrupt in SN8... no favorites, corrupted observation lists... Is the fixed version of SN8 already available for normal users?

    I used the Pro 8 version in the observatory last night.   Apparently when I stated earlier that everything was working it must have not done an update and I was incorrect.   

    After starting the program up and getting the scope connected using the CPWI driver and slewing to targets the FOV seemed like it turned off.   I went to the FOV settings to turn it on again and all my setups for eye pieces and camera were blank.   I was only able to pick a defined field view like 1 degree which are the standard setup defaults.   So the field of view data became corrupt during the background update of data.

    I did check on the observation lists and those were still populated.   

    I do not understand why this did not happen when I first tested the SW for the FOV and observation lists.   I can only guess that the background update task did not take place and it was using data that was on the local drive.   Clearly it updated data last night and then the custom FOV items were gone.

     

    What is interesting is that this morning the FOV picks are populated with data again.   I will leave the SW running in the background to see if they go away later.  

    If there are any specific tasks you would like tested please let us know via a post to the beta forum and I will glady go thru the tasks and check.   I want to help get this resolved as anyone using this tool in the observatory will want this to work.

    There seems to be some more severe issues with the LiveSky-Login/Sync-Feature: I am no longer able to login to LiveSky with SN8 Pro Beta 8.1.0.2021... The login is successul, but it asks again and again to create a new account. When I try to create a new account for test purpose, SN8 won't ask again to create a new account, the login is successfull, but the sync menu entry is disabled. I have created bug reports for both...

    My use of the Beta has expired.  I do not want to start Starry Night 8 Pro to see if the update fix has been made available since I expect it will try to sync with LiveSky and I expect that will corrupt my equipment, observation lists, sites and observations in LiveSky.  Has the fix been made available yet?  What do you suggest I do to prevent corrupting my data in LiveSky?  Can my use of the beta be extended until the fix is available?

    I am using SN8 Pro (v. 8.0.6.1987 IeEW) on a Windows 10 machine and seem to have the same issue. I cannot see my observations lists entered on SkySarafi 6 Pro 6.7.5.0 (iOS). There are 7 lists showing correctly on the iDevice, but in SN8 there are 7 lines shown with zero content. When I add a list on the iPad I also see an additional line showing up in SN8. I only have a basic livesky account.

    I assume SN8  is not updated yet, could you please let me install the beta until it is fixed? Thank you.

    On Windows 10, if you using Pro 8 release then install the Pro Plus 8 beta (and vice versa).  

    On macOS, it does not matter if you install Pro release and Pro beta side by side.

    Is there going to be an update StarryNight Pro 8 for this?  I am still able to use the beta but would like to get the update before a major upgrade is required.

    Also, I have another issue, unrelated to syncing that you might like to know about. 
    When using advanced find to find observations on a specific date, it returns all the observations, the results are not filtered on the requested date.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Go to advanced find
    2. Activate the "Logs" tab
    3. For "Date Was" select "On Date" in the drop down.
    4. Enter the date of the observation.
    5. Press "Find"

    Returns all observations, not just the ones for the date requested.

    I hope this feature can be fixed because sometimes I like to be able to "replay" an observation list to review what I did the previous night.
