Every time I create an observation, it creates a new 'Untitled Session'

Hello,

I'm trying to understand the workflow for adding observations.  I select an object, and Create New Observation.  At that point it seems a new session 'Untitled Session' has been created.  Even if I click the X to remove the session (None) or I change the session to one I've already created, a new 'Untitled Session' is created anyway.

This means I have a bunch of 'Untitled Session' with 0 observations, and they are quite tedious and slow to delete.

Is this the intended behavior or am I misunderstanding something?  I feel like if I change/remove the session when creating an observation it shouldn't make all these 'Untitled Session' for me to go and clean up.

Also any general advice on the workflow for creating observations would be helpful.  I am new to the app and astronomy in general.

Yes I also find this workflow very counterintuitive and clunky.

I make all my observations at the eyepiece in my sketchbook, and then the following day or week I go back through my sketchbook and enter them into SS by creating sessions and observations.

I never create new sessions or observations while at the eyepiece.

The natural pathway I would expect would be the following steps:

    1. Create and name a new observing session
    2. Create new observations. These should be auto filling into the new observing session that I just created, and auto-filling the same date, time (which could easily be changed updated by scrolling a clock wheel) seeing conditions, limiting magnitude, and scope and equipment that was used in the last observation created. No matter what. Auto fill auto fill auto fill.

The main bug right now is that if you create a new observation, and create a new session for it, the next object you try to make a new observation for will default back “untitled” observing session and none of the fields will auto fill to your last entry. It doesn’t make sense.  It’s 10x more work having to re-enter all that repetitive information.

Right now, this the work-around process that I’ve been using to enter the observations into one session.  It’s a lot of clicking, a lot of steps, and a lot of time.

    1. Using Time Controls, change the date/time to the date time to what it was when I made observation
    2. Find object on map or search bar, and select “Create New Observation”
    3. Fill out the fields, leaving the Observing Session field as “Untitled”
    4. After saving the observation, advance the time forward to when your next observation was made. If you don’t do this, none of the fields will auto fill, such as the seeing, limiting magnitude, equipment, session, etc
    5. Repeat until all observations from that session are saved
    6. After all observations have been saved from that one session (all of which were left as “untitled session”), then go into Observing Sessions, open the “Untitled Session” that has all your recent entries, and rename it.  Now that session and all its observations within are correctly labelled.

    But it’s a huge pain.

There’s gotta be a way to improve this workflow.

I've seen this happen before. I think my problem was that my current date and time wasn't set to the date and time of my session. Let's say it's 1pm Saturday and I'm inputting Friday night observations, if my session I create is set for Friday night and my app thinks it's Saturday, it won't enter a new observation into the Friday session unless I've specifically set the session to last through 1pm Saturday as the end time.

This is creating the Untitled Session even if the observation time fits between another session's Start Time and End Time.

We will begin the public beta testing for SS7 on Android soon.

When the beta is available you are all welcome to join and provide your feedback about what would make the app better.

Eric Klaszus, your feature request is slated for review for version 7.1 on iOS.

    Thanks all!
