Camera FoV Rotation In SNP8 Is Relative To Alt-Az (Answer: Test The Beta)

We've been asking for this bug to be fixed for the last year and a half.

SNP8 upgrade KILLED its usefulness for astrophotography by locking FoV to Alt-Az instead of being relative to the celestial grid.

Multiple people have asked for updates on this issue, and expected it to be corrected a long time ago.

All we get is the sound of crickets... Not even the courtesy of a reply.

Now, data files won't even download. Is your company even still in business?

    Hi Tom,

We have this fixed in the next update, which you can test here:

    beta.starrynight.com

Please download and install the Pro Plus beta (if you're already using Pro and vice versa).

    Please confirm the fix.

    Thanks!

    Ahh, thanks Keiron!

If you could crosspost this good news to the original thread it might relieve anxiety. :)

Are you having a data download issue with Starry Night?

Yes, for the last few weeks (hadn't touched it for a few months before that) I am getting failures when trying to update data. On Mac I'm getting a pizza pan for a few minutes then an error message. On Win, I just got a connection error message.

Naturally, since I just tried to recreate the error and get you the error text, it worked perfectly for the first time. :)

I'll resubmit separately if it reoccurs.

Keiron, NOPE. It's still locked to alt-az in both Mac and Win versions. The FoV needs to be relative to the celestial sphere as it used to be, not anchored to alt-az.

So what is the answer, is this fixed or not?

According to Tom the beta has the same issue, which I agree wholeheartedly with Tom "KILLED its usefulness for astrophotography". In fact, after "upgrading" to SN8 I was forced to absorb the lost $$$ and reinstall SN7 so that I could frame objects for astrophotography. So if this isn't fixed, then I'm sticking with SN7 and when that doesn't work anymore I'm going to find a new planetarium program - one where developers don't cripple the program and pass it off as an "upgrade" while pocketing your money.

I'm going to try a new post. It's not fixed, it's been almost two years I think, this was supposedly answered ("test the beta") and the answer was glaringly incorrect. The last posted beta didn't fix the error, and the released version (which is numbered after the beta) doesn't either.

The FOV is locked in Alt/Az.  We know.  This is not a bug.  We will review this in the future.  Thank you for your feedback.
