[UX Issue]* Why Is SkySafari 6.7.2 Still Not Showing Angular Separation? (Answer: Please Read The Help - This Is Confirmed Fixed In 6.7.2.0 Update - Remaining Text Issue Needs Path To Reproduction)

I updated  today.  Sky Safari 6 Plus version 6.7.2 still not showing angular separation when using Measure tool, even though we were promised a fix last January.  In addition, now, when using the Measure tool, there is something  "buried" behind the light year distance that is unreadable.  Using MacOs Catalina.10.15.7

    Hi Peter,

    Works for me.

It is also not working correctly in MacOS 10.11.6 (El Capitan). See Image.

However, it seems to work properly in MacOS 10.14.6 (Mojave).

Additionally, the annotation on this thread's title to "Please read the help" is only partially useful, since the Help file contains an error.

    Quote:

    Measuring Distances

In SkySafari Plus and Pro, you can measure the distance between objects. Start by selecting an object you want to measure the distance from and then select "Measure From" from the Selection Menu. Click on the object you want to measure to, and a line between your selected object and the object you initially selected will appear. The angular distance in the sky between the objects is shown at the end of the line, as well as the physical distance between those objects in space (if known).

Click anywhere away from the distance measurement line to dismiss it or select "Cancel Measure From" from the Selection button in the Toolbar.

    End quote.

The last line is incorrect. Clicking "anywhere away from the distance measurement line" will not dismiss the Measure From function. You will instead continue to measure to new points in the sky, even if you click on an empty portion of the sky. The only way to cancel is via the menu item or its keyboard shortcut.

Thanks, Dean.  You are correct.  The menu button must be deactivated.

And do you have a comment on the fact that the angular distance is still not being displayed correctly under Mac OS El Capitan? (per the image in my previous post.)

    Hi folks,

Don't know if it makes a difference --SS plus vs. SS Pro.  I am using Mac Catalina 10.15.7 and it is not working.

See the screenshot.  There may be an angular distance, but it is buried behind the light year measurement.

I am seeing the very same condition as Peter with SkySafari Pro, as you can see in the image that I posted earlier.
In my case it’s happening under MacOS El Capitan, but works properly under Mojave.
This would suggest that the problem still exist in both SkySafari Plus and Pro, but exhibits differently in various MacOS versions.
I would appreciate it if one of the developers would investigate and acknowledge this problem, and commit to fixing it.

And please untag this thread as “Completed”.

I'm not seeing this issue on using either Pro or Plus on Mac Catalina 10.15.7.  So, if please Dean, Peter, delete and reinstall SS6 and see if that makes a difference.  Thanks!

Yes, so I just deleted SS 6 Plus an dthen reinstalled it. Nothing has changed.  The angular separation is still "buried".

I also deleted SkySafari Pro 6.7.2 then reinstalled it from the App Store. It made no difference on MacOS 10.11.6 (El Capitan). The  angular separation portion of the "Measure From" text display is still truncated (or clipped) exactly as shown in my previously posted image.

I also deleted the folder at /Users/*my user name*/Library/Containers/com.simulationcurriculum.SkySafari6MacPro and allowed SkySafari to rebuild it at its next launch.

Other than returning SkySafari to its default settings, this also had no affect on the "Measure From" text display issue.

I have the same angular separation problem with my MacBook Pro as shown below. I also have the latest update of MacOS Catalina and the latest update of SkySafari 6 Pro. Would really like this fixed.

This definitely should not be listed as "Completed" until users can demonstrate that the angular separation portion of the "Measure" function works with their computers.

Please figure out what's going on. Thanks.

Thanks, all, for your reports and patience.  Obviously, something is still amiss, though we are not sure what that might be.

We are working on it, and will reply here in near days ahead, with queries to assist.

Can everyone with this issue please post their hardware specs.  What is your Mac computer model number.  You are welcome to screenshot your Apple > About this Mac panel.

    Thanks!

This was fixed for a while but now I find that "Selection / Measure From" is broken in Sky Safari 6.7.2 and MacOS 11 Big Sur.

This time it looks like Sky Safari tries to write the info to the screen, but the angular separation text is cropped right above the absolute distance info and completely unreadable.

I resolved this issue by reverting to default settings. I recall using the measure tool when I first purchased SkySafari 6 Pro. I loaded the HR Diagram feature when I became aware of it. I recall being frustrated that the tool bar did not have an associated button. Mysteriously, a button appeared and the measure tool produced the clipped text that others have complained about. After reverting to the default setting, the button disappeared and the text returned to normal. My OS is Catalina 10.15.7.
