SkySafary 6 Pro Can’t Connect To Celestron WiFi After Update To iOS 14 (Answer: This Issue Originates With The Apple iOS 14 update, And Requires An Update To iOS 14 From Apple For A Fix - But A Manual Input Solution Is Available, Read On!)

Connection to Celestron WiFi worked perfectly in iOS 13. With iOS 14 SkySafari will not find the WiFi Module in Access Point Mode and loses connection in Direct Mode. In Direct Mode it reconnects but you are unable to control the telescope properly.

Edit: This happens with iOS 14.0.0 and 14.0.1

Hello I have the same issue with 6 pro, thank you for looking in to this.   FYI  the same issue applies to the Celestron Sky Portal app too.

When using Direct Connect mode, how long after the initial connection until the disconnection?

    Please also check:

iOS Settings > Privacy > Local Network > SkySafari 6 Pro > Enable

    Thanks!

    Hi Keiron,

Thank you for working on the problem. Regarding your questions I can give you the following answers.

On my iOS 14.0.1 devices SkySafary 6 Pro was not showing under iOS Settings > Privacy > Local Network.

After switching to Direct Connect mode SkySafary asked for permission to use Local Network and showed up under above settings.

It then did not disconnect anymore. Initially it disconnected every 15 seconds approximately.

So I think Direct Connect mode is working when you get at the point where SkySafary is allowed to scan Local Network.

Access Point mode still does not work. I have seen that other app developers are discussing a bug regarding this issue at the moment here.

In Access Point mode I took and gave the permission for Local Network, restarted SkySafary and the telescope mount, without any effect. IOS seems to still deny the network scan.

    Hope this helps.

    Greetings from Switzerland

    Adrian

Was the app update 3.3.4 intended to fix this? Still doesn’t seem to work

This specific issue originates with the iOS 14 update from Apple.  We are waiting for Apple to release the fix.  We have been informed that an upcoming iOS 14 update (now in beta) has the required fix.  So, please check for a fix after you update iOS 14.

    Thanks!

    Keiron Thank you

I have just noticed, when in DA mode and I configure the AP   i.e type in my SSID and password etc then send that info to the wifi dongle,   that when i re-read it to check the details both the SSID and password are enclosed in quotation marks.

    eg "MY_SSID"  and "My_password"  not MY_SSID and My_password.

Is this the way it should be?

    Thank you

    Regards

    K

Keiron see attached screenshots - after editing with SS6 pro iOS app, quotes seem to be added to SSID, same happens with password not shown here.

However the good news is that after a recent IoS upgrade to 14.2  the AP networking is now working on my iPad with SS6 pro.   I had to use the OSX version of SS6 pro to set up the correct  AP configuration.   However I am using a SKYQLINK  PC wifi adapter (old version which maybe a little outdated)

(Skyportal AP connection does not seem to work as yet)

    Regards

    Ken,

This is an interesting development.  If you have the time and will please document for our community how you achieved this result using SkySafari 6 Pro on macOS.  Please include step-by-step instructions and screenshots.

    Thanks!

    Hello Kieron

I can confirm that I can connect to my celestron wifi via  Access Point using SkySafari6 Pro and IOS 14.2. I have recorded a screen capture movie of this connection.  However I am unable to post it because I can not see a video upload link.  I can send it by email if use wish or post it on WeTransfer.

I use a SkyQlink celestron wifi adapter. (the old version (grey) - not  V2 (orange)) connected to a 8SE with an Aux splitter

The adapter can be set up using this method https://www.celestron.com/blogs/knowledgebase/how-do-i-use-skyq-link-with-my-wireless-connected-windows-computer

If you can see the wifi adapter on your network then it should now connect to SkySafari 6 pro iOS 14.2  and MacOS and celestron CPWI software on windows.

If not check the wifi  configuration on wifi adapter. When I checked mine there seen to be some additional quotation marks eg "my_SSID" and not just my_SSID

    This what i did:

     I reset my SkyLinkQ (optional)

I tried to use the SS6 pro  iOS version to configure the wifi adapter

       - This did not seem to work for me and I think this is where additional the " " are being added in my case. (Could be an issue due to  my old version the wifi adapter)

I have a version of MacOS SkySafari 6 Pro so I used this to configure the wifi adapter.

    Method:

    Telescope

    Setup

Scope type should be - Celestron-Wi-Fi

        Use Direct Connect

        Configure access point

Make sure Wifi adapter is in Direct Connection mode and MacOS is connected to the  SKYQlinkXX Wifi network.

Fill in your network details in the configuration panel

I used a static IP address  and typed in one was available and not in already used by another device .

Make sure you send the updated configuration to the adapter.

Switch mode on the WiFi Adapter to Access Point

         Restart your scope

         Reconnect MacOS to your network.

Check if  the WiFI adapter appears on your network.

Check if it connects to SkySafari6Pro on MacOS usingAccess Point Mode

If so disconnect from MacOS and then try  to connect your IOS version. Make sure that IOS device is on same network as wifi adapter and SkySafari6 Pro is in Access Point mode.

Basically if your WiFi adapter is correctly configured and on the same network - It should now connect with Sky Safari 6 Pro on iOS 14.2.

                   ---------------------------------------------------

If you do not have the MacOS version of SkySafari6 Pro try the windows route with the celestron software.

I will post some screen shots if required however they seem too big to do so at present.

    Regards

    Hello

Celestron SkyPortal  App now also works with iPadOS 14.2. I had not changed the app to Access mode form Direct Access mode :)

SkySafari 6 Pro now also works with iPhoneSE iOS 14.2 as well as IpadOS 14.2 in Access Point mode.

Sorry I don’t mean to HiJack the thread but can I just get clarification/confirmation.
Is skyfari6 on MacOS and IOS compatible with Celestron SkyQ Link 2? I’ve been looking around and I can’t find a clear answer.

    Thanks!

Celestron SkyQ Link 1 works ok so I should think Celestron SkyQ Link 2 will also work with mac OS X or iOS.

    https://www.celestron.com/pages/skyportal-mobile-app

This link suggest that the new wifi adapter works with SkyPortal.  Sky portal is powered by SkySafari6.   So I think it will all work ok.

I think this is version 2

I've experienced similar issues.   I am using the older "rectangular" SkyFi module and have update firmware to 2.3.3

My iPad is running iOS 14.2 and has continued to be able to connect via SkyFi network and SkySafari 6.0 is able to connect to my Celestron CPC 800.

I updated my iPhone to iOS 14.2.1 and am unable to connect. Get "connection failure" message.  I've tried a lot of things, including the steps above without success.  I have noticed one thing that appears different on my iPad:  in SkySafari settings I am able to select "SkyFi Setting Web Page" and I am taken to the web site.  On my iPhone using 14.2.1 with all the same settings as my iPad, when I select this link the program goes to a blank screen.

Quite disappointing at this time.  I prefer to use my iPhone and I will not update my iPad until I can get this issue resolved.

ISSUE RESOLVED:   Must "manually" input IP address NOT "Automatic as shown.  I switched to Manual and input the numbers below and was able connect.
