Is SkySafari 6 Plus Compatible With Amazon Fire Tablets? (Answer: No)

Last winter I installed Sky Safari 6 Plus onto a new Amazon Fire HD 10" tablet. I had to install the Google Play Store but it worked. I decided to trade tablets with my wife, letting her have the new one and me taking her older but still Amazon Fire HD 10" tablet.  I installed Sky Safari 6 Plus as before but now when it launches it will immediate disappear.  No error messages to lend a clue nor does it freeze somewhere. It just starts to load and then is gone. Unless I am mistaken, this is a Gen 7 tablet whereas it worked on the newer Gen 9 tablet.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Fire tablets aren't supported but there are a few threads on these forums where people describe different things they've tried. Good luck!

In the play store, the most recent comment talks about the app not loading after the most recent upgrade.  Is there a way to download an older version?  Also, here item 9 says it will work on the Fire if you install Google Play.  https://skysafariastronomy.com/support/faq/skysafari_android.html

    James,

That FAQ is very old.  There was a time when we tried to support Amazon Fire tablets, but sales were too low to continue development.  So, Fire tablets are no longer officially supported.

Per Chris' suggestion, you might find a solution or success story in the community forums.

Best to get a stock Android tablet for SkySafari 6 (and V7 coming soon!)
