MacOS version is Catalina on a 2020 Mac Book Pro.
I am having terrible trouble with the Observe->Observations commend not opening my observations list after a SkySafari crash. I used to be able to fix the problem by deleting all SkySafari preferences (under OS versions prior to Catalina), but now this doesn't work and now I can't get t my observations at all. Here is how this occurs:
I use a usb to serial connection to my SkyQuest XX16g to control it. Whenever the setup has changed slightly, for example if I plug it into a different USB port on my Mac or forget to plug the USB serial device in properly, SkySafari 6 crashes when I try to connect to the scope. I try to avoid this situation, but every few months this crash will happen. The crash problem is remedied by opening SkySafari again and reselecting the USB serial device in Telescope->setup. However, this does not fix all the problems generated by this crash: every time this crash occurs, my observations become inaccessible. The symptom is that Observe->Observing Lists, Observe->Sessions and Observe->Sites all work as expected, but then if I try Observe->Observations, they don't come up and whatever pane is currently open on the left of the screen (into, obsering lists, etc) becomes unresponsive to clicks. I have to restart SkySafari to return it to correction operation and avoid using Observe->Observations.
This has been an ongoing problem for me for years. I believe I have posted before, but really didn't get any help. The only fix to restore access to Observe->Observations has been to wipe all the SkySafari preferences. It then reloads everything from LiveSky and access to Observe-Observations is restored and everything works again - until the next time I accidentally crash SkySafari with the USB serial problem outlined above.
I got a new Macbook Pro late last year and upgraded to OS X Catalina in the process. Now the preference delete fix doesn't work. In fact, I delete all the SkySafari preferences I can find and it still magically remembers my LiveSky account, my observing lists and everything. I deleted everything SkySafari and simulationcurriculum related from my Mac, then reinstalled from the AppStore and it restored everything and my observations were still inaccessible. Clearly some SkySafari setting has moved to a new hidden spot, preventing me from starting from scratch.
I am stuck. I can record observations, but never view them again. So:
1) How do I completely wipe all preferences and settings so I can start from scratch and restore from LiveSky account (which seems to have everything intact, thankfully).
2) Can the crash when the USB serial device is now longer there please be fixed. This is very repeatable.
3) Can the corrupted observations access after a crash please be fixed. This is very repeatable.
