[Feature Request] Zoom Buttons Should Not Disable Compass & Using The Compass Should Not Reset Time

I would like in SS7 that zoom buttons will not turn off compass (like in SS6) and also compass on/off will not reset the time. Ideally, reset the time only with the "now" button on time menu. If there's already some configuration in menu that solve this, please advice.
Thanks,
Peter

    Hi Peter,

I see the difference between SS7 and SS6 which you are point out regarding the zoom buttons.

But, I do find SS6 also resets the time when the compass mode is engaged.

Why would you want to use compass mode at a time other than "Now"?

    Thanks!

    Hi Keiron,
For planning or virtual observation purposes, preparing to compose the photo or observation at location. Recently, I was planning where and when Leonard comet will be-when I'll be able to see it, to avoid obstacles like trees, hills, houses, pollution and to visualise possible composition generaly. Even visualizing rough directions for custom location is good reason. Resets of time was annoying for me even in SS6, even there was probably reasons to implement it like it is in the first place.

Keeping the custom time while working with compass (ie switching on/off, zooming, time changing between studying custom time sky and objects) and also while AR is good generaly to visualise future and past sky or events at various locations. Contrary, I don't see why it resets by (so many?) actions, when it's quite comfortable to click on time>now button. Or if there are more reasons to automaticaly reset the time by other actions which I don't work with, it would be nice to make switch in settings "time resets only via time>now button".
Maybe then there could be some mark to warn user that it's custom time, for example different color of time numbers in left top corner.

I would even welcome (settings) button to "lock compass" , to have possibility to zoom in and out but not switch it off by touching the sky screen, only by compass on/off button. Because of special cases, I sometimes use it to polar align my mount when polaris is obstructed, which can be quite easy and effective for low magnifications-while holding the phone on/against the mount. But I can live with it as it is now-the time issue is more important.

    Thanks,
    Peter

    Peter,

Developers will review your request.  I know the AR mode has a special place in the astrophotographer's toolkit.

But, the default settings must always be what is best for the majority of users.  And, I think it is fair to say when AR is used by the majority it is likely to be viewing something up in the sky right "now."

    Still, developers will review.

Thank you for sharing your feedback!
